Question

How do I listen to voicemail without recording a greeting

I've just moved over to id mobile and I've only realised I can't access my voicemail without setting up a mailbox name and recording a personalised message.

I don't want to do either of these things. I don't think a mailbox needs a name, and I want a generic recorded message not a personalised one.

The voicemail service just hangs up on me if I don't record anything, so what do I do to get around it??

If I can't, at least I'm on a 30 day contract so my stint with id may be quite short...

I know it’s a pain I had to do the same and it was the same when I was on Three so assume it’s because iD uses Three as a network partner. Think you can press # key once it starts recording your name if you don’t want to record your name. However if someone calls it will just be blank on the message at the part it plays your name if that makes sense. No other way around it I’m afraid.

Hi @Mennim

Unfortunately as @MZone suggests you’ll need to set up a personalised greeting, sorry.

I have just had the same problem.  I tried to bypass by pressing the # key but it wouldn't accept.  I named the mailbox and selected auto greeting but it then uses the mailbox name which I don't want.

I don't think this should be mandatory and is a huge error in terms of personal privacy.  I do not want unknown callers to know my name or even hear my voice.  Now off to find out how to turn off voicemail!

That's what happened with me. I didn't even name it anything sensible but I didn't think it would matter until it let me hear a preview of the voicemail message.

At least voicemail is easy to switch off via the app. Maybe I'll just do that too.
