How much do ID charge for going over data allowance?

Hi guys, I've been stupid and gone way over my data allowance (54GB more than allowed) - I've been using my WiFi as a tether during a house move and underestimated the data cost.

ID can't confirm the exact charges but I'm expecting it to be in the £100s - anyone got any experience of this? I've been on with IDs advisor's this morning, hoping that buying some add-ons or upgrading to a contract with more data will circumvent the charge but apparently that isn't possible.

Thanks

Hey there @ShaunC, if your bill cap was set to £75.00, then you certainly wouldn’t be charged anything more than this, as it would’ve been blocked when you reached the cap, if you did.

We do send out texts when you’ve reached 80% of your cap limit as a warning, and a further text once you’ve used 100% of your cap limit. So if you haven’t received either of those, it may be that you haven’t used up all your cap.

Your next bill will of course show the correct charges once generated, so once generated, please do get in touch with us if you have any further queries surrounding the charges.

Thanks,

Tyler

What was your iD account bill cap setting, @ShaunC

Any out-of-plan charges should not be more than your bill cap setting.

Morning @ShaunC,

You can find our Out of Bundle Charges here: https://www.idmobile.co.uk/help-and-advice/call-charges. As @andewhite has said, you will be capped by your Bill Cap.

Thanks.

The bill cap was set at the maximum of £75, I've since reduced it to £25 as my monthly bill is normally just £23.

Edit: I didn't realise bill cap was a thing until I noticed the amount of gone over my allowance 😬

So if my bill cap was set at the maximum (£75) before I changed it this morning, I won't be charged more than £75?

I guess so, @ShaunC - online it says:

I assume there's some kind of warning that you're about to reach your bill cap?

You’d hope so, but the alerting process may not always work reliably, @ShaunC.

Thanks @andewhite - guess I'll just have to wait for the bill 😅
