Introduction of Number Share / Smartwatch eSIM Plans

I am writing to respectfully request that iD Mobile consider introducing a Number Share or Smartwatch Data Plan feature for wearable devices like the Samsung Galaxy Watch (LTE/Cellular models) and the Apple Watch.

  • The Current Situation: As a customer with an LTE-enabled watch, I am currently unable to use its full potential with my iD Mobile plan, as iD Mobile does not yet support the eSIM technology required to share my mobile phone number with my smartwatch.

  • The Value Proposition: This feature, which is offered by major competitors in the UK market (such as EE, Vodafone, O2, and Three), is highly valued by users who want to be able to make and receive calls/texts using their main number without having to carry their mobile phone (e.g., when exercising, shopping, or briefly stepping out).

  • A Growing Need: The popularity of cellular-enabled smartwatches is growing rapidly. Introducing a dedicated, low-cost "Watch Plan" add-on would be a significant enhancement to the iD Mobile offering, improving customer retention and attracting new users who require this functionality.

Could you please confirm if iD Mobile has any current plans or a timeline for rolling out this essential smartwatch connectivity feature? If not, please pass this request on to the relevant product development team for future consideration.

Thank you for your time and for reviewing this important feature request.

Sincerely,
Claudio Souza

    Hi @Claudio Souza

Thank you so much for the above. I do apologise that you cannot use the SIM to its full potential. I can confirm that we do not have a plans or timeline.

Hi ID Mobile. Your last response to this request was 5 months ago. Has your position changed with respect to supporting the Apple Watch cellular, or android equivalent?

    thank you

    Hi @Glynemrys

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and feature suggestion with us.

We appreciate the detailed explanation and understand why support for cellular-enabled smartwatches, including Samsung Galaxy Watch LTE and Apple Watch devices, is important to you and many other customers.

At present, iD Mobile does not support smartwatch Number Share services or dedicated smartwatch eSIM plans. We understand that this functionality is offered by some other UK network providers and recognise the benefits it can provide for customers who wish to stay connected without carrying their handset.

While we are unable to provide any information regarding future product developments or confirm whether this feature will be introduced, we greatly value customer feedback such as yours. We will ensure that your comments and suggestion are passed on to the relevant team for consideration.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact us and share your thoughts. Customer feedback plays an important role in helping us improve our products and services.

I’ll certainly be leaving ID as soon as I can. No clue why they wouldn’t offer this. Most inconvenient

    Hi @Leifree.

I’m really sorry to hear that our current lack of smartwatch support has led you to decide to leave ID Mobile.

I completely understand how inconvenient this must be, especially when other providers do offer this feature.

While we don’t currently support Number Share or dedicated smartwatch eSIM plans, your feedback about this is important and I’ll make sure it’s highlighted again as a key reason customers are looking to move.

We do take this seriously when reviewing future product options, even if we can’t commit to timelines.

    Thanks,

    Marquerita

I have also previously, brought this subject up with ID and expressed my dissapointment, as stupidly, I didn't do my homework when I signed up with ID as to whether they did esim plans. I am nearly 12 months into a 2 year contract and unless something changes regarding the introduction of sim plans, I will be leaving for another network that supports my LTE smartwatch. I would guess there are a lot of customers who feel the same. It seems a bad business strategy to me as wearables especially smartwatch have exploded in popularity

Totally agree, they are missing a trick. Other than that it’s a great network and service
