iPhone or Samsung

I am considering upgrading from iPhone 14 to Samsung Galaxy A55. Is this a wise move or folly?

Hi there,

Your question really depends on what you want out of your device. The switch from a flagship of two generations ago to a current generation mid range device is big, as well as the switch from iOS to Android. I would consider the following:

- Do you need a new device, or just fancy an upgrade because you can? It may be better for you to wait until you can switch to a higher end device if you want something comparable to your iPhone.

- What features do you want? The A55 is a well rounded device and it does it's job well, but you may find that your iPhone performs better in areas like the camera and processor.

- Are you in the Apple ecosystem of devices? Samsung offer a very competitive ecosystem of devices that work well together, but you may find if you have a lot of Apple devices, that you would be better sticking with iOS.

- Can you wait? The A55 is soon to be replaced by the new A56, this will mean you could either get the latest version of the line, or you could bag a seriously good deal when the A55 goes on sale.

- Do you want flagship performance? Yo lu may be better off considering an older flagship, the Galaxy S24 series has some good deals at the moment having just been replaced by the Galaxy S25. You'll find the performance of this device to be more comparable to your iPhone.

The A55 is a great device, but I would suggest it us less of an 'upgrade' from the iPhone 14 and more of a side step. The technology that exists in today's mid range phones is comparable to the flagships of 2-3 years ago just for context.

I hope this helps, more than happy to offer further advice if you need it.

Thank you for your detailed reply. It’s very helpful. I had been looking at the Samsung S phones too so will look again. I’m not wedded to iPhone but do appreciate its functions and am very used to IOS. Lots to think about.

@Fpdowning  Hello there it all depends if you follow Apple's eco system or not. Like many have already suggested go with the Samsung or whatever Android device is within your budget and phone features.

Samsung are a very reasonable brand and their device fits most people's needs. Don't fall in the trap with all the hype with camera pixel storage etc etc just do some research on both device or other's device's, a good  starting point is over on gsmarena.com many reviews.
