new customer struggling with signal

Since joining id it seems the problems are very consistent. More recently it has been the signal, it seems to drop out almost constantly now. Yesterday we went to London and it hardly worked, naturally I would assume that London would have good signal, id never had an issue previously with my other provider. It seemed to be 10% the signal would work, and 90% of the day it was out of action. 
For my regular town (Luton) it has been working, no known issues in the area and checked before hand when joining) but even then it drops out suddenly. Another issue I have had is saying my SIM card isn’t there… which it is- it’s not dirty and is placed in correctly. So really not very impressed. 
also to add, I got my daughter a phone from ID also the year before last, she she also struggled with the same issues. (Although she didn’t tell me this until I started complaining about mine)
