I have recently joined iD

i have never had an issue phoning anyone before but when i ring out i have no ring tone - just silence until they answer!

this is so off putting and annoying!

I’ve googled obviously and tried all the tips bur nothing works !

when the same people ring me i can hear a ringtone to answer it. ( as can they when i ring them .. its just my handset that can’t hear the phone ringing)

has anyone else had this issue?

do I perhaps need a new sim card ?

thanks

Hi @Fraugretel ,

I’m really sorry you’re experiencing this, I understand how annoying it is when you can’t hear the dialling/ringing tone when calling out, even though the call connects.

Since you recently joined iD Mobile, please try these checks first:

Restart your handset
Go to Settings → Sounds and check ringtone/volume is not muted
Turn Airplane Mode ON for 30 seconds → OFF
Check for any software updates on your phone
Test the SIM in another unlocked phone if possible (to rule out SIM fault)

The fact that you can hear the ringtone when receiving calls suggests the network is working, and this may be handset audio or call tone settings rather than the SIM.

If the problem continues, please send me your phone model o I can check further for you.

I have tried all your options

( except trying the sim in another phone as not available)

and I still have the same problem sadly .

i hear no dial tone when ringing out - this seems to only be if the person has any phone that’s not an iPhone. Apparently the recipient does hear a ringtone but emptiness at my end.

my phone doesn’t actually ring when a mobile rings me - I do get a notification onscreen of the call but it’s silent ( all sound settings checked )

if a landline rings my number I can hear an audible ring..

I have a brand new iPhone 17 on a new iD contract

I am not happy but don’t know who or how to contact and explain the situation.

Please help- thank you

@Fraugretel -

It’s unlikely to be the SIM card that’s the issue. Here’s a few things to check.

Sometimes Wi-Fi calling blocks the outgoing ringing sound.

  1. Go to Settings > Mobile Service > Wi-Fi Calling.

  2. Turn this OFF.

  3. Restart your phone and make a quick test call. If the ringing returns, you can leave this off for now (or try turning it back on later to see if it  has corrected itself).

Sometimes the phone gets confused switching between 5G and 4G for voice calls.

  • Go to Settings > Mobile Service > Mobile Data Options > Voice & Data.

  • Change the setting to 4G and try making a call

If the first couple steps haven't worked, clearing your network settings usually does the trick.

  • Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings

Please note: This will delete your saved Wi-Fi passwords, so you will need to type them in again afterwards.

Sorry to hear this @Fraugretel, certainly a strange software bug! I’ve done some research, and it looks like it could be an issue with iOS 26 update. Can you please try a couple things:

Go to Settings / Sounds & Haptics / Haptics. You’ll see "Always Play" chosen. Change it to "Play in Silent Mode”.

Then Hard Restart your iPhone (don’t worry this won’t delete any data!0:

  1. Press the volume up button once.
  2. Press the volume down button once.
  3. Hold the power button until the phone reboots and the Apple logo appears.

Then go back to Settings / Sounds & Haptics / Haptics. You’ll see "Play in Silent Mode" chosen. Change it to "Always Play”.

Let me know how you get on. Thanks!

Thank you for the help Matthew-

I was so excited and hoped to try this ..

sadly I tried it and still have issues!

If I phone a mobile number that isn’t an iPhone all I get is silence until they answer- the phone rings at their end but nothing my end.

if that same phone then rings me - I can hear my phone ringing.

if I phone a landline or an iPhone ( can’t say all but in my limited friends and family base that are willing for me to repeatedly test this!) then I can hear a ringtone my end .

its very strange indeed but I can’t go on not being able to hear a ringtone when I phone a mobile that’s not an iPhone! 😩

Hi @Fraugretel Thank you for your detailed feedback, and we completely understand how frustrating this must be. From what you’ve described, it sounds like there may be an issue with your current SIM the issue, so we recommend trying a replacement SIM.

You can get one from your nearest Currys store or please contact us directly on Live Chat via https://www.idmobile.co.uk/live-chat and we can arrange for a sim to be delivered to you within 2 working days.

Hi - it’s my understanding if I get a new sim it will be a new number that I won’t be able to get back ?

As I’ve had this number for about 30 years I’m not happy to lose it on the off chance that it will work! If it doesn’t I’ve lost my number and still have a faulty phone?
Please DM me or email with a resolution!

this problem has been happening since day 1 - I should really have just asked for a new phone straight away but thought it was a blip that could be sorted !

😩
