What is going on with reception? I haven’t been able to use my phone for about a week. Can’t call, can’t use the internet

Hi there @Frost

It’s worth putting your postcode in to this first to see if there’s any known issues:

https://www.three.co.uk/content/experience-fragments/threedigital/uk/en/site/mvno/network-status-checker/idmobile.html

If the above says there’s no reported issues then check the coverage using your postcode again here:

https://www.three.co.uk/content/experience-fragments/threedigital/uk/en/site/mvno/coverage-checker/idmobile.html

It defaults to 4G, simply toggle to 3G and 5G

If 3G has been turned off then you’d probably need to tweak your phone as per this:

If all of that shows no problems or your phone has the correct settings check to make sure you’ve not had an emails (inc Spam) from iD, more so about leaving them.

Thanks for that, it shows as an issue and they are working on it. This has been like this for a week. I know things happen but surely a week or so is ample time to resolve this. Do you know the best way to contact I.D mobile or if I can leave I.D due to poor service. This is rubbish service

No problem.

Erm, well, you’d rightly think a week is more than enough time. Mines been pretty bad since April. It got even worse from September. And for the last 13 days it virtually unusable.

Hopefully yours is only for a short time 🤞

You could raise your issue via their socials or live chat. If you’re new to iD then you can leave within the cooling off period, depending on who you joined through it can be 14 days or direct with iD its 30 days. After this time and you’re on a 12/24 month contract the only way to be released is via their complaints team, but from what I’ve read on here it won’t be easy.

Here’s the various ways to contact them:

Again, thanks for the reply. What have you done about your situation? I’ve been with ID for about 12 months, it’s been just just about ok but the last week or so is not really useable

What have I done, well funny you should ask.

Back story  -

Our area has been having signal quality issues now since about 2018 (yes 2018, thus almost 7 years). Having been loyal to our previous service provider (a MVNO using O2’s network) for almost 10 years we reached a point where things were just too bad (my guess was/is congestion due to them getting too big for their boots) and we joined iD (myself in February).

For the first month with iD it was almost perfect and due to having 3 to 4 bars of signal my wife joined a month later (March). Then after another month the fun and games started again. Why did work fine for a maximum of 2 months before something changed really does make me wonder just what is really going on (or off for that matter). Is it another case of a MVNO getting too big for their kiddies booties too?

So what looks inevitable -

We learned our lesson when tying ourselves into long term contracts and thus took out a 30 day SIM only deal with iD.

Now don’t get me wrong, the price we’re paying for the data (we now can’t use ironically) isn’t bad at all. But for health reasons we need a phone service that actually has the ability to make and receive calls, the data side was only there for video calls.

But now the boss (my wife) has totally lost faith in iD and being as the boss has spoken we’re probably going to have no choice but to leave iD in a minimum of 9 days time. I would’ve liked to have made it for a least a year (ya know to give them time to sort this) but things are getting serious here, we need to be able to make voice calls when one of us is not near WiFi.

But as I said yours really could be a short blip and they fix it quicker, just don’t go of what's happened to me.

Hey there @Frost, we’re very sorry to hear this. What’s the full postcode you’re having issues in please?

Is the issue with calls, texts or data?

What phone do you have?

Thanks,

Tyler

Hi Tyler,

my postcode is CV5 7DY. I have an iPhone 15.
calls work ok now but my reception is poor, it shows 3G and one bar of reception. I seem to be able to call now, using the internet is non existent which is frustrating as i am paying for unlimited everything.
I haven’t really had many problems with I.D up to now, a few times my reception has been poor in comparison to other networks.
It has been on 3G one or two bars for a week and a half when I’m at home, previously I’ve always had 4G at home and a couple of bars minimum so no issues.

So I’ve had a quick look at the coverage at your postcode and the surrounding area, and I think I can see a pattern. This is how mine all started ← not saying yours will, just how mine did.

I actually think Three UK has switched off 3G in your area, hence it only showing 3G as good outdoors. Three started switching 3G off first in the Midlands. And now I’d suggest the 4G isn’t coping with the extra demand (like mine). Even just south of your postcode the 4G is showing as only good outdoors too (mine does not, it shows good indoors and outdoors).

So I’d also go on to further suggest that your phone is bouncing from a weak 4G to a weaker 3G signal. My phone will sit here on a weak 4G and for the most part when I attempt to make or receive a call I’ve noticed my phone will drop 4G and revert to 3G (the call quality is worse but the signal strength is higher than on 4G). I don’t use an iPhone, so I have no idea, but if you can set the phone to only use 4G and 2G only then this might help you. The 4G is for normal calls whereas 2G is for calling the emergency services so I wouldn’t set the phone to 4G only (if you can on an iPhone).

If it transpires that yours is going to be like mine I can only say if you have home internet you consider turning WiFi calling on to help reduce the voice aspect on your phone. But I’ve also had the calls still dropping as our phones still need to ‘see’ the iD network to use WiFi calling and if the iD signal drops too low your phone still drops the call, hence me likely moving to another provider.

If you don’t have home internet (and don’t take that the wrong way many now don’t due to having decent phones) then all I can say is either wait it out or consider another alternative.

But hopefully iD can get yours back to where it used to be🤞
