Hi @Gemma Hilton,

Welcome to the Community!

Please can you advise if you have checked the coverage and network status checker at the link below:

https://www.idmobile.co.uk/help-and-advice/coverage

If no issues are showing you might need a replacement SIM card.

Please let us know how you get on.

hi @Gemma Hilton  - i had the same problem. same phone. they sent a new sim. not resolved. stick it in the old phone i use to use - no problems.. so something associated with this samsung model.

not sure what it is.. perhaps a trip down to currys next.

Hi @Joe Nguyen

The replacement SIM didn’t work either?

Have you tried a network settings reset on the new phone?

For Samsung;

Settings > General management > Reset > Reset mobile network settings

Resetting network settings will NOT reset any personal data (Photos, Videos, Contacts etc) only network settings.

When i put the sim in the old phone which was working fine before.. it works.. nothing wrong with it apart from the cracked screen - hence the replacement. but in the samsung A20e - no such luck.. tried network reset.. tried adding ID apn..still same issue.. it looks like it recognise the ID mobile APN and picks all that info after the network reset but the number itself does not get recognised on the network or the phone.. if you check the about tab.. all the information is there apart from the phone number which it says UNKNOWN.

if i stick a different sim from another network into the samsung it works perfectly. - so this problem is specific to the phone and the sim.. as ID sim works on other phones and other sims works on the Samsung.

weird.. and Currys were no help. they said it is the phone.

Hi @Joe Nguyen

Is the A20e locked to another network?

Just to add to the above

Grab the A20e, go to:

  • Settings
  • About phone
  • Software information
  • Service provider software version

And let us know the last group of letters ie VOD/EVR,XEU/XEF

Hi there @Joe Nguyen

Nope, its not truly unlocked I’m afraid to say.

That started life as an EE phone. That software means that phone won’t work on iD. The reason it won’t work is the EVR software version. This inhibits the VoLTE functionality that is now required in non 3G areas. This also means it won’t work on other networks that don’t use the EE network.

You can try flashing the phone to a truly unlocked software version - google if thats something you want to explore.

Hi @Joe Nguyen

As @Daz_S suggests it sounds like it may be locked to EE, it may be worth speaking to them directly to see if there’s anything they can do about the software on the device, sorry.

Thanks for the help on this one @Daz_S.

No problem @Tom 👍

Just a final thing to add to Joe. You’re not the first and I know you’ll not be the last one having this problem. I’ve helped a few recently on here and most of those posts were also regarding Samsung phones. Some were also being sold as unlocked when they were like yours, coming from EE.

thanks for the info.. yes worked fine before the 3g was turned off.. had been using it a couple of months ago and it then it stopped working so i assume it was unlocked as it was working ok on the ID network

but lesson learnt

Honestly Joe it was not a problem

And that’s the bit I really do hate, having to say I know why. I’d be pretty peed off myself though I must stress you’ve done nothing wrong. If you bought/obtained it as an unlocked phone how would you have known about the software version inhibiting the VoLTE functionality.

The only other advice I would suggest is to ask around family/mates/neighbours etc to see if one of them has the same phone and theirs no longer makes calls and they’re on another network. You might be able to test each others SIMs - if yours works in that phone and theirs works in your phone swap ‘em.
