If I use my phone as a hotspot for my laptop I can access the internet no problem with good speed up and down, but I can't play online games, just keep getting a connection issue.

By default the iDM tethering is set to 5Ghz only and for the most part that should be fine if the phone and laptop are close together (but not too close). Though sometimes you may have to nudge that down to 2.4GHz - 5Ghz is faster but shorter in range whereas 2.4GHz is slower but transmits further

On the tethering/mobile hotspot screen tap configure and then advanced. Look for the power saving mode and try toggling that (it defaults to on) to off and click save

(not many know but power saving states it can affect gaming when its toggled on)

Does that bring the ping down?

Maybe something to do with the ping? If you have high ping gaming doesn’t like it. Also when you say good speed what speed are we talking here.

My ping on my home broadband is 24ms (part fibre) so 400 is too high for gaming. You need less than 100 really. Try putting your phone next to a window. If there is an option on the phone data settings / APN protocol to use IPv4/IPv6 or IPv4 then try that. Saw it on google.
