poor download speed

I'm new to Id Mobile but was recommended by my son in law. Unfortunately I am finding that the download speed is dreadful, max 7mbps whereas I was getting over 20 with Lebara and Giffgaff, and over 40 with Lyca.  I first had the SIM in a Motorola G22 but now am using a new Poco  C65. Same result. Mastdata says I'm in a strong signal area. In fact the mast carrying 3 is about a mile away with direct line of sight. Does anyone expect things will ever improve, especially if 3 use Vodafone network in future? I'm fortunate that I'm on a rolling monthly contract so might well leave but it's a shame that I didn't realise my son in law doesn't bother with data except for social media apps. Would a new SIM help? Any ideas?

Sounds like EE, O2 and Vodafone might currently have better network services in your area, @Valdaviz

The OFCOM mobile coverage checker might help.

Check all the networks for any given postcode.

Many thanks . Here both 3 and Vodafone are shown as "limited" but Lebara piggybacks off Vodafone and the signal is good. Just checked Lebara at 24ms ping, 18.39 mbs down & 21.35 up. In comparison, iD Mobile registers 36ms ping 8.38 down but wow 13.25 upload. If only I needed the upload speed!

All good stuff.

@Valdaviz,

Different locations have different level of coverage and all networks will vary.

Have you checked the network status and coverage using the link below:

Hi Kash,

Yes, I had checked the coverage on iD mobile and 3 sites but both say excellent 4G coverage, calls, texts & data. My postcode is Po8 0hs which shows us in the middle of a good 3 reception area. Mastdata indicated that here 3 is better here than EE or Vodafone but my experience is very different. 6mbps average download speed is about what I got 3 years ago on a 3 contract. At that time 3 said we should get 5G in 18 months, no chance if that of course. I have sent an email to customer service to ask their advice. Doubt they will suggest moving back to EE or Vodafone but I probably will. Only a monthly contract so I thought it worth the risk but really a poor experience for me.

Hi @Valdaviz

Okay, as mentioned different areas will experience different levels and coverage and thus different data speeds, if you’re already in touch with one of our teams, we’d recommend keeping on with them.

Thanks Tom,

I had not yet had a response to my customer service query but this morning the data speed had improved, around 15mbps up and down. I naively thought they had done something for me.

This evening the speed hovers around 5mbps both up and down. I'll give it a couple of days but will probably leave. My husband is on Smarty with very similar results, so I have to accept 3 is poor here.

Cheers, Valerie
