Recently have the pixel 8a with new contract on ID whenever I make a phone call it constantly cuts out and the recipient can not understand me. Please help!

Hi @ClaireWillders

Sorry to hear this, does this happen in all postcodes or just certain one(s)?

If so, please could you let us know which postcode(s)?

If not, please could you try the SIM card in another device and see how you get on?

Hi there @Kennywig

For your postcode 3G has been turned off

You would therefore need to look to see if you can switch VoLTE on on your phone.

@Kennywig

Firstly check if your phone is now deemed as an approved handset

Then this document produced by iD Mobile should help

Towards the bottom it has sections regarding iPhone, Samsung and most other Android based phones. You click on the learn more bit regarding your phone.

Hopefully you have the ability to turn on LTE in your network settings and thus then also have the ability to enable VoLTE. Even if your phone HAS those functions on there is still a chance it still won’t work, but hopefully yours is not one of those.

Hi @Kennywig

I’d recommend checking your device’s settings for where to switch 4G calling/VoLTE on.

If you’ve read and checked to confirm your phone is set correctly, and/or have the ability to adjust your phone settings using the above links then maybe your phone still has a previous phone service providers software installed on it. If you used the phone prior to joining iD (and it wasn’t using the Three network) then this could be the reason why you either don’t have the functionality or it doesn’t work.

Three UK are the ones switching off 3G. iD simply use their infrastructure.

I pay my bill to ID mobile, you are not providing me with a service , if there are issues with Three network infrastructure that's your problem not the customer , we are paying for a service we are not getting thanks.

Clearly the ID mobile can't cope with the volume of there customers needs  !!!!

You’re barking up the wrong tree @Kennywig

I’m not iD staff.

I’ve merely suggested/advised that due to the 3G switch off for your postcode, this may explain why you can no longer make and receive calls.

I also advised you check your phone is compatible with the iD network AFTER the 3G was switched off.

I then advised you check to see if you have 4G or LTE available but more importantly VoLTE. If you do not have this option then it might be related to your previous phone service providers software inhibiting this functionality.

Tom (an iD employee) then advised you read the article regarding the 3G switch off and what you need to do moving forwards (I would stress IF you can move forwards due to possible old software rendering this functionality void)

Kash (also an employee) advised you make contact with their live chat facility.

If you’ve done all of the above then maybe one of us, whether that be a fellow customer whom has first hand experience of the issues related to Three removing 3G, or an employee might be able to assist you further. So have you double checked any of the above? If so then maybe there is nothing more to offer in relation to resolving your connectivity issue.

And from all the appearances, having read a lot of other posts regarding poor signal etc, I can only agree with you that there is a pretty big problem with decent coverage, though in my own personal experience its not just iD. Yes my signal on iD was brilliant then after a few months its dropped significantly though this was before the 3G was even turned off. I only joined iD as they were one of the cheapest out there and thought why should I pay more for a crap service.

I am so sorry Daz_S , your right I thought you were from ID mobile, I have done pretty much everything suggested and signal still crap.!!!

I to agree you pay cheap you get cheap they are going to loose a lot of customers, then maybe signal for the rest might improve.???

Hey there @Kennywig, as with any network, there can be coverage issues that occur that we look to resolve ASAP.

As mentioned by my colleague, please contact our live-chat so they can raise an investigation with our technical team for you:

No worries @Kennywig

But honestly I totally understand where you’re coming from!!!

When I was (and still am) a cheapskate I was with Tesco for many years - their family perks were too good to not use and we had 6 SIMs with them. Then as the years rolled on the service went to poop.

They and O2 mentioned that it was due to our area needing investment in mast upgrades (verbally as they wouldn’t put it in writing - you know why) but without any time frame.

So I was contemplating doing an offski. Then when Virgin and O2 merged that was the final nail in the Tesco mobile coffin as it became virtually unusable. And duly noted today Virgin have substantially upped their monthly costs for their customers, as have O2 but a lesser amount - wow).

So I joined this provider and at the beginning it was the best its been in years. Then hey presto its gone back to like it was on Tesco.

I genuinely had 2x SIMs from Vodafone in my online basket the other day but am waiting the outcome of the Gov findings regarding the pending Vodafone Three merger. Now if history repeats itself (Virgin/O2) my wife and I will be going back to pigeon, 2x polystyrene cups with a length of string!

I’ve had extremely, and I mean extremely bad phone signal/connecting to numbers etc for a good while now. My phone won’t make calls when it’s on 5g, which I rarely get where I live anyway…. My phone drops down to 3g for some reason then connects but then I can’t hear anyone on the other end, it crackles and cuts outs then the call drops. This has been since ID announced that 3g had stopped in my area, yet it drops to 3g still anyway. I’m quite tired of this now to be honest. My IPhone 14 is only any good when it’s connected to the internet. I’ve tried anything and everything to try and sort this but still the signal is absolutely appalling. I would like to be actually able to talk to someone properly from ID, I know this doesn’t exist, I’d also like some sort of discount at least for the duration of my contract because this service is just terrible. No other network I’ve been on is like this where I am and this contract will be cancelled when I can get rid of it.

Hi there @Richard8791

Yes, sadly you’re another one….

Without sounding repetitive as I’m starting to flood the forums with my own tales of woe, I can absolutely understand what you’re saying.

Mines been very bad for months now, and currently on day 6 (I think) of calls dropping. I’ve also recently spotted my phone number goes to unknown during the drop. I could/should blame the SIM but my wife is having the same issues too.

This has been since ID announced that 3g had stopped in my area, yet it drops to 3g still anyway. I’m quite tired of this now to be honest.

Yep, same here. It was slowly degrading before the big 3G switch off, though since it’s gone it’s virtually unusable. Today alone I went to make a few calls and part way in they dropped. I had to make a very important call and has to resort to standing outside to call this call. Now for no fault of my own they had to put me on hold a few times as we couldn’t talk. To top it off (I already found this out a while back) when the call hits 1h 59m 59s the call is ended by iD. I was very embarrassed when they called me back, again standing out in the rain. What has my life become….

My IPhone 14 is only any good when it’s connected to the internet. I’ve tried anything and everything to try and sort this but still the signal is absolutely appalling.

Using a Samsung here, but even my wife has resorted to WiFi calling which is fine until the network signal drops and promptly drops calls this way too. We could move to another service provider but they ain’t much better help either. Who knows the now to happen Vodafone-Three merger might finally fix this, but at who’s cost - ours more than likely.

I would like to be actually able to talk to someone properly from ID, I know this doesn’t exist, I’d also like some sort of discount at least for the duration of my contract because this service is just terrible.

Well you could chat to iD via live chat (link is on Tyler’s post). Then progress to their complaints team.

No other network I’ve been on is like this where I am and this contract will be cancelled when I can get rid of it.

I have to admit, Vodafone Corporate (business customers only) were the best I’ve ever used, done One 2 One, T-Mobile, Orange, Vodafone and all were fine years back too. The big 4 have us over a barrel IMHO and when its the big 3 goodness knows how much worse or better this’ll all get.

Morse code and pigeon never let us down this much!

I’m a bit too late to post this for tonight, but tomorrow if you start the chat with either speak to person or talk to person this would bypass their automated chat bot.
