Porting number from ID to ID via third party ... how long between switches?

Hello,  I’m going from an ID sim only to a monthly contract.

I understand you have to do a ‘triangle switch’ via a third party network, then switch back.

My question is, now I’ve switched from ID to “A.N.Other Network”, how long should I wait before requesting the PAC code and switching to my new ID sim?  Or can I do that right away?

Many thanks

Hi @ajm83. As a general rule, we recommend leaving the number on the pay as you go SIM for 24-hours before requesting the PAC to transfer the number onto the new iD contract. That way it should come through automatically via text.

Let us know here if you have any further questions or queries surrounding this. We’d be happy to help.

Probably best to wait a day or two and avoid unexpected issues.

It won’t always work if you request the PAC immediately after switching, @ajm83

I’d suggest making sure the number you want to keep works properly on “A.N.Other Network” before switching back to iD Mobile.

Thanks @andewhite

I was worried that I’d have to wait for a complete billing cycle to pass, sounds like that’s not needed. The number has now successfully ported so I suppose I’ll give it a week then switch it back.

Cheers 😎

If you’re not in a hurry a week should fine - just waiting a few days is probably long enough, @ajm83

Hi @Sarah Robinson

Are you on an iPhone or Android?

If iPhone I’d recommend checking your device for a primary and work phone numbers, the iPhone may have assigned two phone numbers to itself if you’ve used your iD Mobile SIM card in your device before the number transfer.

Can someone please tell me how to do this?

Will this not be expensive if I have to sign up to a third party contract?

(If anyone has a step-by-step / any advice that would be helpful!!)

Hey there @Sarah Foster, please see instructions on how to do so below:

Unfortunately, it isn't possible to move a number directly from one iD Mobile account to another iD Mobile account. We'd require a PAC code from another network to move a number to an account.

In this case, you may be able to try the following triangle port method;

1) Get a PAC code for the number you wish to keep.

2) Purchase a Pay As You Go (PAYG) SIM from any OTHER network.

3) Give your PAC code to the new PAYG SIM provider to transfer your number from iD Mobile to the PAYG network.

4) Once it's been transferred over, this sends your number to the new network on PAYG and cancels your old contract with us automatically, the final bill will be sent via email.

5) Once the number has fully transferred to the PAYG network allow 24 hours and then request a PAC code from them.

6) Transfer your number to the new iD Mobile plan via PAC code at the link below, once the transfer is fully complete your PAYG SIM will be disconnected and the desired number will be on the new iD Mobile account.

Thank you,
