quick messages problem

Hi I have recently switched to id and ported my old number over, I had trouble setting up iMessage but got it working in the end but when I send a quick reply by pressing and holding on the notification in Lock Screen it always sends as a txt message not as a iMessage even when the recipient and I are on the same WiFi ?

What do Apple say about this, ​@Nufc4life82? 

The Apple iMessage service is 100% an Apple product, so they should be able to explain this behaviour.
