Hi @Ella21

Glad to hear that’s sorted.

For others who may see this and not know how to resolve, we’d recommend the following;

1) Open Messages, go to Settings (top right, Message Settings), open "Chat Features" or "RCS Chats", verify if this is the correct number or not.

2) If it shows the incorrect one, then head to: https://messages.google.com/disable-chat and you should be able to unregister the number. Once done, turn off the Chat Features/RCS and the phone. Wait a few minutes and turn the device back on and re-enable Chat Features/RCS it should let you re-register/update to the correct number.

Alternatively, you can turn Chat Features/RCS off and test SMS after this.

Android : Pixel 9 Pro
Followed all the guidelines/suggestions to no avail.

Turn off RCS / clear cache-storage / restart / turn on / verify etc etc x3 : Nope (even entered own number during verify phase)

Checked my phone number on the google account and the number shown included the original SIM one (weird).

Delete dud number from google account

Turn on RCS - nope, still dud number.

Repeat Turn off RCS / clear cache-storage / restart / turn on / verify etc etc x3 : Nope.

Clear storage and cache (again).

Network reset : nah : try a simpler and marginally less brutal approach first.

Uninstall Google Messages app, restart phone, Google Messages auto re-installed.

Settings : check RCS number and finally my actual number is shown - Sorted - I think after checking with a friend.

This!  I tried every other suggestion on here, and the only one that eventually worked was to uninstall the messaging app updates (you can’t uninstall the whole app), re-update, and then set up.  Now shows correct number.

Hello @Sepo

Thanks for getting in touch.

Sorry to hear you are experiencing issues with the service following the switch.

Can you please confirm if your number is showing correctly in the handset settings?

Settings - Apps - Phone - My Number.

Thanks,

Nat

Removed ID mobile # from google account, reset google msg app. restart phone. then it take longer than usual to verify number (my ported number), and it worked.

Hi @Antman1987

Can you please try the below for me please.

Check your phone number on the device

On most Android phones, go to Settings > About phone (or About device) > Status > My phone number.

Some devices may show this under SIM status or SIM card status within the Status menu.

Update the number in the Messages app

Open the Messages app.

Tap More (⋮) > Settings > Advanced.

Select Phone number and update it to the correct number linked to your SIM card.

Tap OK to save.

Reinsert the SIM card

Power off the phone and remove the SIM card.

Restart the device without the SIM.

Power off again, reinsert the SIM card, then turn the phone back on.

Check if the correct ported number now appears in the phone settings.

Test the SIM in another device

If the issue continues, please insert the SIM card into a different phone.

When sending a text message, check whether it shows a temporary number or a ported number.
