Register for app/online account when abroad


I am on holiday in the USA and I have reached my cap limit. I tried to increase my cap in the app but I need to re register because ID has updated their systems. In order to re register, you receive an SMS with an 8 digit security code. However I am not able to receive SMS as I'm at my cap limit! Can someone help me to register so I can increase my cap please?

Yeah, unfortunately the iD Mobile security code SMS delivery seems to go wrong from time-to-time, @Aross1248

When I joined iD and tried to register for “My iD Account” online, the security code SMS was taking 8-hours or more to arrive. Needless to say the online confirmation page timed-out well before the SMS was delivered.

Okay @Aross1248, iD don’t charge for receiving an SMS while roaming, anywhere.

Perhaps try using your “My iD Account” online instead of the iD app, which might be geo-locked to the UK.

However, once you hit your bill cap limit, I don’t think it can be adjusted before the next billing cycle begins.

Hi @andewhite, thanks for the reply! I have tried both the app and the online version you have linked but I don't receive any SMS either way. Maybe the reason is different to what I thought if receiving SMS is always free...

I have been able adjust my cap upwards after hitting it in the past so hoping it's still possible!

Okay @Aross1248, perhaps iD allows your security code to be delivered by email instead of SMS - is that option available anywhere?

Hi @andewhite , when registering you first validate your email where it sends you a code, then your phone number. The email part is fine as I'm on WiFi, phone number is the SMS stage that I'm struggling with. There are no other options for delivery method.

Interestingly I got a text from iD when I hit 80% of my cap, but nothing for 100% so that seems like another sign that texts aren't getting through.
