I have just bought an iPad 9th Gen with cellular. I have a idmobile sim which I have never used (I do have idmobile sim in my phone). Can I install the unused sim in my iPad & then associate it with my account?

Perhaps pop the unused iD SIM into your new cellular iPad and see if it’s still active,
FYI, iD Mobile only support their SIM devices when used with a mobile phone. They won’t help & support if the SIM is not being used in a mobile phone.

I can however advise that only one SIM can be active on a plan/subscription at any time, so if you were to want two SIMs in compatible devices on the go at once then you would need to have two separate subscriptions.
It may be worth considering tethering your iPad to your phone via WiFi hotspot functionality, if you just want to access data on the iPad away from normal WiFi.
