Stop paying but keep sim for later

Hi, I don’t need my phone now; it is PAYG. Can I just stop my DD and keep the sim and start paying when I need it?

TIA

Okay @Ann Halliday, if you stop the direct debit for your iD account, any missed payments would be marked on your credit reference file, and your account may fall into arrears.

Maybe switch to another service provider who allow up to 6-months of inactivity before you are disconnected, and have your SIM deactivated.

Your iD Mobile 1-month rolling SIM only pay monthly contract cannot be paused - it continues until one of the parties cancels, or you port your mobile number elsewhere.

Something's not quite right here, @Ann Halliday

An iD PAYG plan cannot be paid using a direct debit (DD) - with iD PAYG, you pay by debit card, or using a top-up voucher.

Hi @Ann Halliday

Unfortunately what you’re describing wouldn’t be possible, sorry.

Thanks for the help here @andewhite.

I'm in the same position. What happens to a SIM/number when a contract is ended?

Hi there @Fabz

If you’re on a 1/12/24 month iD contract and that time has elapsed and you wish to reduce your payments (but keep your number with iD) you can change your plan to a cheaper price still with iD

Or request a PAC and move that number to another providers service

Or request a STAC and that number stops and would eventually be released for use by another.

Thanks Daz. I'm on a one month rolling contract. I'll be travelling abroad for 4 months soon so wish to stop/end my contract but keep my number/account, ideally on a PAYG basis. Then switch to something else on my return.

Right, so at this present time you can’t directly switch to or from Monthly SIM to a PAYG SIM with iD.

  1. So either PAC it to another provider and take one of their PAYG SIMs. Then when you come back port it back to iD if you want to come back.
  2. Or triangle port yours to another (on a free PAYG) and then after 24 hours of it going live port it back to iD on a PAYG. This would be a long winded way as upon your return you’d have to repeat the process and move it back to a 1 month SIM only with iD.
  3. Or change your plan to one of their cheapest tariffs and just pay around £6-7 per month just to keep your number alive. Then when you get back change the plan to one with more data (and at a higher price) - for the sake of £24-28 over 4 months this may actually be the better option as the account remains the same and the number stays where it is - iD don’t actually care if you use the phone or not, until you stop paying they’ll provide the service.

(my advice would be number 3)

Thanks for the speedy response and the clear explanation. I'll go for number 1 for simplicity and economy. I greatly appreciate your advice and willingness to help.

Yes, Daz was brilliant and I look forward to him welcoming me back in 4 months, if the world doesn't get even more insane...😊
