I have a Samsung a54 phone ( the best and newest of the A series) and it is 5g and I was out for a drink with family and where I was I couldn't get any signal yet my mother only has a 4g phone and not a great phone and her connection was fine. I always seem to have 1 bar and I like to tether my laptop to my phone data but find I can only do this between 1am and 7am or I am losing connection continuously. Why is this? The network coverage says its 5g outdoors but I've walked outside and never got it but even my 4g is awful. I don't think I will renew the contract with idmobile as I was lead to believe it uses three's network but I cannot believe this if the my Internet connection is anything to go by.

Maybe your mother’s old phone has the better antenna configuration, despite being the older handset, @Leighton Bolwell

The antenna arrangement plays a significant role in the quality of signal you’ll be able to experience, whatever mobile network you’re using.

Hey there @Leighton Bolwell, welcome to Community!

We're very sorry to hear you're having issues with coverage.

Please take a look at our coverage checker, which will show you what your signal strength should be like in your area, for all of 3G/4G/5G, for both indoors and outdoors.

https://www.idmobile.co.uk/help-and-advice/coverage#coverage-info

Furthermore, please take a look at our network partner Three's network status checker, which will show if there is any maintenance or performance upgrades going on in your area. If the website states that's the case, then it's likely that this is disrupting your coverage, and we hope that this is resolved soon for you.

https://www.three.co.uk/support/network_and_coverage/network_support

Please take a look at both of these. If you believe you should be experiencing better signal than you are, or if the networks status checker on Three's website isn't showing any upgrades or maintenance, then please do let us know or contact us via our live-chat:

https://www.idmobile.co.uk/live-chat

Please also try restarting your phone, and resetting network settings.

Thanks,

Tyler

Hi Tyler,

I did check coverage and it says that 5g is available outside only. I have tested this theory out and walked outside for 20 minutes and at no point did my phone change from 4g to 5g. Also it has nothing to do with my phone because my phone will change to 5g when I go through Poole which is 5 miles away. Surely my my 4g should be of good quality then when my phone reverts to this when 5g is not possible? But it isn't as like I mentioned I only getting really strong Internet connection at unsociable hours midnight to 7am, why is that?

Kind regards

Leighton

Hi @Leighton Bolwell,

I would advise contacting our Live Chat Team and they can check your coverage and have a look at some trouble shooting steps.

If you would like us to check it out here, please let us know.
