text messaging problems

Hi all,

I've recently got an ID monthly contract SIM, I got my PAC code from my last provider (virgin) and imputed it on the id web page so I could keep my old number. My old number ported over to the new ID SIM on Tuesday as I requested, I can make and receive phone calls and texts to my old number as expected but when I send a text it goes via the number that came with the SIM. Can anyone help with this problem as I'm not sure what's gone wrong. Thanks.

@Frag_bruno - try switching on RCS after a few days. I know with Apple’s iMessage service, it can take up to 48 hours to update your number on their servers. Thanks.

Hi, I went to the link to deregister the number but Google want me to input a 4 digit code to deregister it which they send to that number. I can't do this because it's not my number anymore because ID have ported my old number to the SIM. Thanks.

In that case @Frag_bruno have you tried removing the iD SIM, performing a NETWORK SETTINGS RESET then reinserting the iD SIM? Thanks.

That sounds like it's worth a try. How do I do a network settings reset? Thanks.

Hi Matthew thanks for your help so far, I reset the network settings but that didn't help unfortunately.

I decided to try putting a different SIM in the phone, when I booted the phone back up the number in RCS chat settings changed to the correct one for the SIM.

I then put the new SIM into a different phone and the new SIM still has the same problem( the number in RCS settings is still the one that came with the SIM) so I can make calls/ send and receive SMS texts and they're sent from my old ported number, but when I try to send RCS messages other people they get it from the original number that came with the SIM. Could the SIM be faulty? Or has something else wrong with the porting of my number over from virgin to ID? Thanks.

Just turn OFF RCS chat features in the messaging app, @Frag_bruno

If you used your device with the iD SIM before switching your number, sounds like the Google RCS servers might not have recognised the number for your device has changed after porting to iD.

Might also be worthwhile double-checking the mobile numbers and devices in your Google account.

@Frag_bruno it won’t be an issue with your SIM card as RCS is a service provided by Google. I’d try the suggestion from @andewhite, go to account.google.com and see if the temporary number is there. If it is, remove it. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply's guys, I've checked the mobile number in the Google account and as far as I can see nothing has changed (it still shows my old number that was ported over with the PAC code).

I've turned off RCS chat in the settings so I'm just using MMS now. Hopefully Google will update the number at some point. Ande is right the SIM was in when the number switched over, maybe if the number doesn't change moving to another company with a fresh SIM may be the only way to sort this?
