Unexplained data usage

I have been with ID mobile for about a week and the app shows I have used 2.5 GB of data. I don’t understand how this can be since that would normally be about what I would use in a month. If I check the data usage on my phone settings (pixel 7a) it shows the same amount, but if you add up the data used by individual apps it only comes to around 300 MB.

Can anyone explain this? I have seen a few threads from users on various networks reporting similar issues but there doesn’t seem to be any solid info on what causes it.

Thanks for the reply, sorry for not responding. This seemed to sort itself out in the end so I’m not sure the issue was.

Hi @Rothwell1,

We're sorry to hear you've used more data than expected.

There are a few reasons why this can happen, including apps running in the background, automatic app updates, cloud backups, video streaming, or using your phone as a hotspot.

To help reduce your data usage, you can:

  • Turn off background app refresh/background data for apps you don't need.
  • Use Wi-Fi for app updates and cloud backups.
  • Enable your phone's data saver mode.
  • Reduce video streaming quality where possible.
  • Check your phone's data usage settings to see which apps are using the most data.

If you'd like us to take a closer look at your usage, please contact our Customer Service team via Live Chat, and they'll be happy to investigate this further with you.

Regards,
