using abroad

Can I use my mobile phone number in the USA and how much,  or could I purchase a sim to use in the USA?

Hey there @Sunray, eSIM and physical SIM cards work in exactly the same way, and exactly the same for roaming also. It’s just a matter of preference between electronic or physical SIM for the customer!

Thanks,

Tyler

You could use your iD SIM in the USA, but may not want to unless you’ve got deep-pockets for bags of money, @Andrew Pallett.

Maybe buy a local SIM in the US upon arrival, or use a data-only eSIM with a US travel plan (assuming your handset is eSIM capable).

Hi @Andrew Pallett

You’ll be able to use your iD Mobile SIM while in the USA, however as @andewhite suggests, it could get expensive, I’d recommend checking the below for details on the charges for usage;

eSIM card.  I am travelling by boat/yacht to Panama and then through canal, Caribbean in general and BVI in particular.  Is an eSIM card recommended?  If so will I be able to keep current physical SIM card and simply revert back to that when I get back to the UK?

Thank you Tyler.  I understood that my current physical SIM card for the UK would not be useable in the countries I am about to travel to.  Some advice I have received suggests I should purchase a local SIM card on arrival or, purchase an eSIM card and upload it before departure and then use it for whichever country I travel through.  On my last trip abroad to NZ my physical SIM card would not allow me to make telephone calls.  Thank you for taking the time to respond, but oh to be able to TALK to somebody at iD Mobile!

Hey there @Sunray, no problem at all.

If you wish to speak to us, we’re contactable here, via social media and via our live-chat, and can all help the same as we would over the phone.

Any further questions on roaming, please do let us know.

Thanks,

Tyler
