using SIM in router whilst in France

I've been able to use my iD SIM (without any difficulty) in a router (Tenda) whilst on holiday in England but whilst on a skiing holiday in France last week the router failed to show any 'WiFi signal' meaning that I was unable to use as was possible in England. Any ideas, suggestions for an easy fix looking forward to future travel?!

I appreciate all the helpful suggestions & comments but until I now 'go abroad' again, I've no way of trying anything out. However, at least now I'll be better equipped to achieve a successful outcome without "wasting" too much time! 👍So thanks again.🙂

Hi @JGId,

Welcome to the Community!

It sounds like you may need to check that Roaming is enabled for the SIM via your iD Mobile account.

I would also advise that you check your APN settings as mentioned on the link below:

Thanks for suggestions.

Regarding "enabling roaming via iD mobile app" I've just checked and my SIM card wasn't enabled (which I've now done) HOWEVER enabling only makes reference to roaming for "calls & messages", there's no mention of "data".

Do I take it that "enabling roaming" in this manner ALSO includes data'? Unfortunately, there's no way for me to check until I next go abroad!!

Hi @JGId

Yes, enabling roaming means its is active for all services.

You will just need to make sure your settings are correct.

Please do let us know if you have any further questions.

Just so you know @JGId , you should also get an automated rate advice text sent to that SIM too when you get to France, so you may have to pop it into a phone when you first get there and then pop it in the router.

(also to avoid maritime charges keep the router off when you leave the UK and only power it up when you reach dry land in Europe)

Hey there @JGId, please note, we only officially support the usage of our iD Mobile SIM cards in handset devices, and the handsets approved on our website.

Any devices outside of those handsets, we cannot confirm if our SIM cards will work inside or not. Therefore, if the SIM works in the router in the UK, then that’s great, but if it doesn’t abroad, then there’s not much we can advise I’m afraid, as we cannot guarantee it’d have worked in the UK even in the first place, sorry about that.

If the issue is with roaming on your handset, then we can troubleshoot further, but if the issue is only with the router, then there’s not much more we can do I’m afraid.

Thanks,

Tyler

Next time you go and if it doesn’t work, pop back on here and although iD might not be able to sort out any connectivity issues, I’d be happy to try and help 🙂
