Hello.
i am trying to find out if calling an international number through whatsapp is free on pay monthly sim only plan.
i have used this with wifi active and each time i get a warning text from ID stating that international calls are not free.
as i understand it, whatsapp uses wifi not cellular, so why am i getting these messages?

The recipient also needs to be using WhatsApp.
When using iD mobile data (not Wi-Fi), the call would be ‘free’ if within the mobile data allowance of your iD plan.

WhatsApp needs to be connected to the internet to operate, you would be charged for using your mobile data while in Morocco, you may be able to find free Wi-Fi spots which would be completely separate to iD Mobile.
