Wrong number still showing in messages after port?

I have successfully ported in my old number to my ID mobile sim but recently it has stated to show my temporary ID mobile number when I send a text to anyone.

Why is this?

Hello @Black-kite-13,

Welcome to the iD Community!

Is this an iPhone by any chance?
The culprit for this would be iMessage.

What happens sometimes is when you've ported your number, iMessage doesn't update to the new number and needs to be done manually.

Can you try the following;

1) Try turning off iMessage (Settings > Messages)
2) then restart your phone (by pressing and holding the on/off button)
3) tap Settings > Phone > My Number and confirm that it is correct.
4) If it is not correct, please enter the correct number)
5) then turn iMessage back to On (Settings > Messages)
6) go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and see if the correct number is displayed under “Start new conversations from:"

This should fix the issue you're facing (if it's an iPhone you're using)

Hi there @Mark2020

Could you have her turn the phone off, remove the SIM.

Then turn the phone on (without SIM) and leave it for about 4-5 mins or so.

Then turn off, re-insert the SIM, and turn back on.

That should hopefully cause the phone to refresh the number in the Android settings.

Let us know how you get on.

@Kingofcake ,

Could you please try the below?

Change the phone number associated with the Messages app: Open the Messages app. Tap More More and then Settings and then Advanced. Select Phone number, then edit the number to the correct phone number associated with your SIM card. Tap OK.

Hi @ch44rlies,

It may be worth turning the handset off and removing the SIM for a few minutes.

Please reinsert the SIM and restart the handset and try changing the number.

If the issue keeps persisting it may be worth contacting Apple directly for further assistance.

Hi, I hope someone can help me.

I have recently purchased 2 new Samsung A53 5G phones, I've ported my numbers and both phones still send messages to certain numbers with the number that came with the phones.

Hi @Alan F. have you tried turning Chat Features off and on?

  • Open Messages.
  • Tap More options > Settings > Chat features.
  • Turn Enable chat features OFF, wait 15 minutes, restart the phone, and turn them ON again

If that doesn’t work, I’d recommend contacting the FacebookTwitter or Live Chat teams for further assistance.

Thank you,

Rory

Hi Rory,

I switched the chat feature off and back on after 15 mins that didn't work so I tried again but turned phone off when switched chat off then switched phone on and turned chat feature back on and that seems to of done the trick

Than you

Alan

Right I've just had this problem with my new pixel 8a

Ive spoken to 3 id mobile agents and an assistant in Currys.  Not one of them knows how to fix it. So they are sending me a new SIM.

How ever my son fixed it in seconds.

So here's how to to it.

Go to phone settings.

Type in RCS CHATS  then on the next page click on RCS CHATS  , should be at the top.  On the next page there will be a toggle to turn off that says turn on RCS chats.  It will be on so turn it off wait a minute and turn it on it should then ask you to verify your number. So type in the number you want to use and it will connect and be fixed.

Im Hoping the id mobile assistants read this so they actually can help there customers as they've been useless today.

I have followed the instructions as per the above for an iPhone and still nothing. Whenever I change the number on phone and click save, it reverts back to the old number immediately after. Any ideas?

Hey there @Elliekitty, we’re sorry to hear that.

Please try resetting your network settings first, and then following the below instructions:

1) Try turning off iMessage (Settings > Messages)
2) then restart your phone (by pressing and holding the on/off button)
3) tap Settings > Phone > My Number and confirm that it is correct.
4) If it is not correct, please enter the correct number)
5) then turn iMessage back to On (Settings > Messages)
6) go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and see if the correct number is displayed under “Start new conversations from:"

Sometimes resetting the network settings first, then following the instructions above can kick it into gear.

Let us know how that goes.

Thank you,

Tyler
