I have just donated to children in need and absolutely disgusted that ID have charged me as it is a short text code, so they are making money out of  donations to this amazing charity. Shame on you ID mobile.

Hi there @Teresa1

I’m only providing an answer. It is not to be taken the wrong way.

Text messages cost the amount of the donation, plus your standard network message charge (based on your service provider rates).

It’s on the BBC Children in Need site, but yes I can see why you’re not happy.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/1htCr816qQbq8Xg3MbfYWM2/text-to-donate

How to donate by text:

You can donate to BBC Children in Need by texting the relevant keyword to the relevant number (the “short code”).
Each text message you send (If your keyword and short code are valid and your text message is received within the specified times and dates) will result in a donation to BBC Children in Need – (see full terms and conditions below for full details)

The amount donated will depend on the keyword and short code stated in the sent message. A full list of short codes and keywords can be found below.

For example, by texting the word FIVE to 70716, you will donate £5. Text messages cost the Donation Value, plus your standard network message charge (based on your service provider rates).
Full text to donate terms and conditions can be found below

Although doubtful, iD may decide to waiver this fee being as it’s for a good cause.

Hi @Daz_S

thank you, not taken the wrong way at all- I have seen the info on the children in need site, and I certainly don’t mind paying the charge, it’s just that ID get it and not them.

Phew, thanks. I was deliberating on whether to reply or not @Teresa1 😳

But yes, business’s making money out of good causes does seem a tad unfair. I’m sure when I was with Tesco Mobile they let us send short codes to things like that for free. If they didn’t I never recall seeing that text charge on my bill.

Who knows, maybe iD will reverse the charge and hand over double to C-i-N. But then again this is iD Mobile we’re on about 🙄
