Getting charged for roaming

I'm currently on a ferry on my way to France. I turned roaming on and immediately got a txt telling me the prices for roaming. Then a few minutes later got a message telling me I'd already exceeded the £45 cap! I thought it was all included? Now I'm scared to use my phone abroad

Sorry to hear this, roaming whilst on a ship would be chargeable, however whilst in France, connected to a French network, it’d be included in your plan.

    On the ship you’d have been connected to it’s satellite wifi; always disconnect.
