Rip off ROTW charges

This summer we travelled from the UK, through France and Spain, returning home. All EU, or our home. I get back to find a £45 additional ROTW roaming charge.

I queried this and was told that logging on on the ferry i used 4mb of data, which cost me £45. Thats ridiculous. Its unnecessary, and will be the cause of me leaving idmobile in eight weeks when my contract expires. A reasonable person can in no way expect this, and I think the company needs to review. I contacted them and was told the above. They seem happy with the status quo, so I'm voting with my feet.

In short hopefully a lesson for anyone travelling and believing the gloss.

iD Mobile doesn’t set the price, the ferry companies do. Same thing would happen regardless of what network you were with at the time.

Hey there @Deepdiver47, we’re very sorry to hear that.

As @WelshPaul has kindly advised, these costs are not set out by ourselves, and are roughly the same no matter which network you’re on.

If you are to go out to sea in the future, via ferry, boat, cruise etc, then we’d recommend turning off data completely, or even better, going into airplane mode.

You can also set your bill cap to £0.00, which won’t allow you to connect to any coverage whilst out at sea, and would block any subsequent costs if you did.

Thanks,

Tyler
