We recently got hands-on with the Samsung Galaxy S10 and you know what? It’s an incredible piece of kit. From its stunning display to the groundbreaking camera, this is a truly impressive phone.

Key features:

· Slim, lightweight, pocket-friendly design
· 6.1-inch Quad HD Infinity-O display
· TrueVision triple-lens camera for incredible photos
· Super secure, screen-based fingerprint scanner
· Powerful Snapdragon 855 processor with 8GB RAM.

What’s the Galaxy S10 like to hold?

The first thing you notice when you hold the S10 is just how slim and lightweight it feels, considering how much amazing tech is packed into it.

It’s just 7.8mm thick, so even in the pocket of the skinniest pair of jeans, you’ll barely notice it.
The screen sports Samsung’s recognisable curved design which is pushed right up to the edges of the phone, with only a tiny sliver of bezel at the top and bottom.

How good is the screen on the S10?

Well, put it this way, it’s the brightest smartphone display ever, it’s got a 6.1-inch, Quad-HD screen with an incredible 550 pixels per inch. So in short, it’s very good indeed.

The Infinity-O screen takes up almost all of the phone, with very little room for bezels around the edge. And most notably of all, the camera sits in a small laser-cut hole in the top right corner of the screen – which explains the ‘O’ in Infinity-O. Looking at pictures of the phone, you might think the camera pin-hole would be a distraction, but after a few minutes of using the phone, we completely forgot it was there.

When it comes to display quality, the Galaxy S9 had been regarded as having one of the best screens ever. But Samsung has been working hard, making the S10 even better.

The colour accuracy has been stated as being “visibly indistinguishable from perfect” according to specialist screen testers at displaymate.com. We can confirm after our own (completely unscientific) tests, that the screen quality is indeed excellent, with an incredible level of detail.

Colour replication is close to perfect, and the AMOLED screen offers true blacks for a contrast ratio that’s second to none.

How good is the camera on the Galaxy S10?

2019 has become the year of the multi-lens camera with big-name manufacturers offering phones with as many as five lenses. And Samsung’s triple-lens setup is able to produce some stunning results.

It’s made up of a 12MP lens with optical image stabilisation, a 16MP ultra wide-angle lens, and a 12MP telephoto lens. Samsung calls it ‘True Vision’ and says it captures every moment just as you see it. And we really couldn’t argue with that, the day shots we took replicated the colours to near perfection with sharp lines and plenty of detail.

When we took the phone out at night, we were even more impressed. Thanks to the multiple lenses, it’s able to let in loads of light so night time shots look great. The phone does a really good job of replicating what you see with the naked eye. Shadows are still dark and light really pops out with colours displayed accurately, even in low-light shots.

How about security on the S10?

Another thing we’re set to see a lot more of in 2019, is screen-based fingerprint scanners. And the Samsung Galaxy S10 is one of the first phones to boast this latest tech innovation. The scanner itself sits behind the screen so all you need to do is touch your finger or thumb to it to unlock it. No more fumbling around on the back of the phone to find the tiny scanner. It works in all sorts of conditions too, strong sunlight, low temperatures, even in the rain.

What’s going on under the hood?

The S10 comes packed with incredible features, from the triple-lens camera to the crystal-clear AMOLED display. So it needs some serious power to keep everything running smoothly – and it’s got it in spades.

It features the latest Snapdragon 855 processor and a whopping 8GB of RAM meaning it’s got more power than you’ll ever need. Menus are snappy and apps open instantly.

When it comes to storage, you can go for 128GB or 512GB, and in the unlikely event that you need more, you can add an SD card up to 1TB (1,000GB).

That is a beautiful screen, and these multi camera phones are making me look at my iPhone with a bit of a frown at the moment. I still havent got into a shop and looked them over though so maybe by the time I do that Apple will have a new iPhone out with similar specs. A really lovely looking screen. Jase
