My contract has come to an end and i have upgraded to SIM only but my next payment is for a full months payment , as i have already paid 24 full months why would this happen if i have upgraded to £8 a month sim only ?

Have you purchased a new connection, instead of upgrading to a SIM only basis,
Do you now have more than one DD going out to iD Mobile?
