I've spent the last week in France and haven't been able to use data on my One plus three phone while roaming. I've had several conversations with customer service and had my settings checked but no joy so far. I've never had this problem with Vodafone using the same phone. Has anyone else had trouble and fixed it? Any ideas? I would hate to leave ID but no data while out and about in Europe is really annoying.

Seems to be related to those buggy APN implementations that the Android OS has.

Try a network configuration reset, but this will remove any Wi-Fi networks you have saved as well (it doesn't seem OnePlus has a backup utility for WiFi networks) 😥

1) Open Settings > Backup & reset > Touch Network settings reset > Select your carrier >> Tap Reset Settings. (Please note that this will reset Wi-Fi, Cellular data and Bluetooth settings which means you will have to input your Wi-Fi credentials again.)

2) Try resetting the APN settings. Open your device Settings > Tap More > Tap Cellular networks > Tap Access Point Names > Tap Menu > Tap Reset to default.
and then do this: Settings >> Storage & Memory >> Cached Memory >> Clear cached data.

Hi Sane Jane,

Welcome to the new iD Community!

I'm disappointed to hear you experienced issues when roaming abroad.

@DeliriousMetro has provided some great tips you can try.

I have a OnePlus 3 also and had a similar issue.

The fix for me was to delete my current Access Point Name (APN) settings and add new iD ones again.

They can be found here: https://www.idmobile.co.uk/help-and-advice/get-your-settings

Did calls/texts work abroad?

Also, it should be noted the EU does have an fair use policy to which they also restrict the amount of data used.

Those who use a lot of data may have a threshold limit and this should be confirmed via an text (and I can see why this is useful as some people may be permanently living in the EU as mentioned in this post).

This threshold is from the EU Roaming regulations and is applicable to all carriers (as far as I am aware, do not cite this source; do your research before travelling 😉)

It's present in the TOS.

If your EU Roaming Use exceeds the EU Roaming Data Allowance (RDA), we may apply a Surcharge of £/mb of data used beyond the RDA, up to the amount your inclusive allowance under your Tariff. Use beyond your inclusive allowance will be charged under your Tariff. (You can still buy an Additional Service or use your Data Cushion if you have one).

In respect of voice and SMS services, we may apply a Surcharge if we think you are roaming permanently, regardless of any allowance under your Tariff.

Yes, but - I haven't managed to access any data so it's not a fair use issue.

Hi, I have the same problem as described above. I have a Redmi Note 5A. I've been to France and Austria recently and my 4G didn't work (it works in the UK). I have modified my APN as shown, but it didn't help. I then set my favourite type of network on LTE/4G and manually searched for 4G networks: when I was connecting to one (e.g. Orange 4G), it would automatically swap to a 3G network.

(Please note I have activated all abroad internet features on my iD account)

What shall I do? Please help 🙂

I think Three and O2 both don't support 4G global roaming, Vodafone and EE do.

Seeing how iD is using Three as a virtual provider this could be the reason? Seeing how the phone recognises the 4g network this isn't an issue with incorrect 4g bands.

Confirmation from iD into this matter is welcome..

Hi @Sane Jane did you try the above advice offered?
Did this work?

In most cases, if you're able to use calls & texts abroad but not data, it's down to APN settings.

Let us know deleting and adding the APN settings again work.

In some cases, resetting your network settings help also.

Hello @Aurelie,

You can also try the same as above.

We support the 3 network when roaming in Austria and Orange, Free Mobile,
BYTEL or BOUYGTEL in France.

To confirm, you were able to access an internet connection and roam, but only by 4G? If so, I'll have to do some more digging on this.

Hi Mohammed
I've checked the APN settings and they are now the ones you gave. I can't see if it works out not until I go abroad again. I'm going to Majorca next week. What networks should I look for there?

Hi Mohammed, I just didn't have any internet back in Europe 😞 (not even H/H+)
As I said, when I was manually connecting to a 4G network, my phone would automatically switch it to a 3G one (e.g.Orange 4G --> Orange 3G)

Just make sure you've deleted and re-added new APNs @Sane Jane,

As I mentioned above, OnePlus phones seem to have a common issue where the APN settings can be configured correctly but doesn't work. Deleting and re-adding will refresh this and *fingers crossed* you shouldn't have the same issue again.

If you do have issues next week, let us know.

The Yoigo and Movistar networks are supported in Spain.

3G should still provide internet connection @Aurelie

Were you able to make calls/texts?

Ok thanks Mohammed I'll delete them and put them in again before I go ( and take a printout so I can do it again if necessary while I'm there!)

Hi Mohammed, unfortunately even with 3G it wasn't working. To be fair I haven't tried to call or text, but I could receive the "rate advice" text from iD there.

Hello @Aurelie,

If you've been able to receive the text, it's likely that you've got roaming set-up for calls/texts and this is a data issue only.

You can test this by ringing from another device to see if you're able to receive the call or calling out.

Have you tried the below:

It's important you delete all pre-existing APN settings and then create a new one, as opposed to modifying the current ones.

What device are you using currently?

Hi Mohammed, thank you, I tried again (I don't think I deleted the APN I had by default the last time, which is three)
I am going to Norway this weekend, hopefully it will work! I'll keep you updated.
I have a Xiaomi Rednote 5A.

No problem @Aurelie,

You can also search for a network manually, as this may be required in some cases.

We look forward to your response.

Yay! Got data in Majorca! Think it might have been checking the roaming box in APN settings that did it. Thanks Mohammed for suggestions.

Hey! Thanks so much Mohammed it worked! The solution was to delete the APN I had by default (and not keeping the two I had, as I first thought).

I have no idea if this is the right place to leave this but i'm hoping someone can help me.

I've looked at various other conversations and it seems like others have had similar problems but none of their solutions work for me or don't exist or I don't understand what it wants me to do.

I have an iphone SE and my calls and texts work fine when EU roaming but my data does not.
It works in some countries but not in others for example I was in Latvia where it worked fine but not in Malta and Paris. I have activated all the roaming settings on my account, far as I can tell, and tried different networks to connect to while away but none of them work.

Any ideas?

Hi @pt06es,

When abroad, you might need to have the phone set up the internet settings automatically. If you find that this issue happens again, please head to the settings on the phone, press General and then go down to Reset. Once there, press Reset Network Settings and then see what happens. After the phone restarts, you should have full network access again.
