Switched to ID as needed an eSIM not physical one Quite like the new issued number but obvs need to retain my old one. Is there a method to keep the newly issued number on 2nd phone?

What I would suggest is asking to move that new number to lower price contract. They start at £6pm.
Then open another new account (with the better data amount) and port your number to that new account.
So with that in mind I’d probably try their live chat. Start the chat with speak to person to bypass their chat bot.
You could also try calling their sales team if you’d prefer to actually speak to them. Their line is open during normal business hours - 0207 139 1397

When transferring a number from another network to iD Mobile the temporary number would be overwritten and lost, you wouldn’t be able to have both the number to keep and the ‘temporary’ number without having two plans.

Ok - my PAC transfer has gone through and my ID Dashboard shows my original number.
However, when I go to Settings > Apps > Phone, the ID issued eSIM phone number is still there.
When I try to manually change it in the format +44 etc, the Save option in the top right is inactive and doesn’t allow me to change it!

Can you please power down the phone and remove the SIM, give it 20 twenty seconds and reinsert.
Then please try updating the number again.

Additional info: SMS messages are arriving on my old phone despite that service being cancelled when the PAC went through!

ID: +44yyyyyyyyyyy
So my ID dashboard shows my old transferred number (xxx) - but the iPhone menus (for number) show the temporary number (yyy) that was assigned to the ESIM I took out.

That sounds like you need to sign out of iMessenger on the old phone. Again the link should point you in the right direction.
I’m loathe to sign out of anything on the old phone as it’s the only way I can receive login codes etc. Once I delete that option I’ll be high and dry if someone sends a confirmation type message. Looks like I’m going to sit tight carrying 2 phones for now.
