how do I stop a group text going to mms

I don’t think MVNO iD Mobile provide network support for sending a group text, @allyrob123. 
Perhaps that’s why MMS is being used instead.

    Hi @allyrob123,

    Welcome to the Community!

    If you are using an iPhone you may be able to send an iMessage group message but all the receivers would need to have an iPhone.
