My ideas

Hi everyone from the Hideout crew.

I wanted to share with you ideas that in my opinion may work (or may not) or at least are worth to try. I see myself as experienced forum user as I used be very high in hierarchy at Android Authority Community with 800++ posts there. I have been moderating and administrating many communities in my homeland back in high school days. I have learned during these times that forums which most returning users are the ones which build big but tight group of people talking to each other about anything (Reddit) or the ones that provides incentives (OnePlus and Giffgaff) for users to come back and help.
Whats below is my idea of these incentives to make people come back.

This one is a little taken from Giffgaff community where this works very very well. On Giffgaff community people who help others earn real money that are paid to them twice a year. On ID community that could be points earned for "likes", "best answers" and overall activities then these points could be exchanged for discounts on upgrade, free data add-ons, or discounts on upfront costs or SIM-FREE phones. I think that could be more interesting to more people and potentially could make them come back and post helpful solutions as it does work on Giffgaff community. Another thing is from OnePlus community where manufacturer let users apply to be the first to test their smartphones and accessories for free as well as they let people write essays regarding certain topics given by admins and the best chosen one will receive a wee reward and fame as well. There is also a think to get merchandise from the company for exchange for points. Both of these forum run on incentives and they are pretty pretty successful.
----------------------------------------

Another idea of mine is about ID Mobile services and my own personal needs regarding them. Simply said I would like to have "data sharing between two ID accounts"
So, how would this work?... Lets say that I have my main number with ID Mobile which gives me 10GB of data (which is true) and my secondary number is PAYG (mostly used for work). I would like to share mobile data and minutes across both of my numbers for a small fee. Instead of toping up my PAYG I could pay let's say £2 and share 1GB of my data from my main number which has a lot anyway. I thought this could come handy as I could give my partner some data as she is on 2GB only and would save me from keep turning Hotspot on and off on my phone.

There you have it, these are my ideas from community and network that I have taken from my own personal needs and experience.

I would like to read what you think of these, is there even a chance of them happening? Or is it just wishful thinking? 🙂

Hey Hikari, that's some great ideas, thanks for sharing with us!

@EdH can pick up on all of the Community based ideas and improvements.

In regards to data sharing, this links in with family plans. It's not something we can support at the moment due to the system. That said, it's not been ruled out as we work to improve how things are operating, we hope that family plans are available in the very near future. (I can't go into it in too much detail sadly)

Once that we've been able to successfully implement family plans, perhaps data sharing will become much easier to implement who knows!

Definitely one that we've had before too and a great feature at that.

Keep the great suggestions coming!

Hey Hikari,

Some really good suggestions here - happy to see you using this sub forum to share your ideas.

With regards to your background of using communities, how do you think your experience with this community has compared? As we further try to enhance our customer experience it's interesting to get
your thoughts on the platform as a whole, and how you've learnt to use it? For example, do you operate on mobile or desktop? How do you find customer questions you would like to respond on? Whats your thoughts on search functionality? Do you use our email notifications? Etc. Etc.

As @Mohammed mentioned, I've been a lot closer to the community engagement piece, working on how to
reward our heroes for all their great work! The challenge I face is that we want to reward our heroes, but we don’t want people to become heroes just to try and get something for free, we want people who are genuinely interested in iD Mobile and mobile tech, who like helping others and sharing their expertise!

This being said, with regards to a few of your ideas around incentives:

  • Data gifting has been our first attempt at reward. Offering our Hero of the month's the 10GB Data cushion as a thank you to those who really worked hard over the previous month. I'd like to advance this further in time, to offer smaller add-ons, but more frequently.
  • Cash incentives is a process that would be harder to implement - as it likely causes the negative behaviour I mentioned above, where people could potentially start posting to increase their 'numbers', rather than to actually help the rest of the community. That being said, there is evidence to suggest it works if managed correctly. I do also really like your slight variation of cash incentives, where you could exchange points for money off handsets or contracts. I will investigate this internally to see if an option like this could be worked into the community and get back to you on it.
  • Testing smartphones is also an idea already on our radar! I want to allow heroes to test the latest phones for a period of time, before potentially writing blog posts or reviews on their experience. This is still just an idea at the moment though, so watch this space!
As you can tell, this is definitely a hot topic within iD at the moment, so keep feeding back any thoughts you may have, and we can see who we might be able to build it into our plans moving forwards!

Thanks,
Ed

Hi @EdH

Speaking of the forum as a platform. I use it on my mobile 100% of the time. I use it on Google Chrome as it is the most convenient way so far (Created shortcut on my home screen). I find it easy to find new posts and questions thanks to the handy options in "Menu" at left top corner. I also love the list of suggested similar topics just below the one that I want to answer. Looking at things from my own perspective I have found this community very intuitive to use, the ease of navigation and frequent involvement from ID Mobile employee are the two major factors that made me decide to stay and become a hero.

Moving on to Search and Email notification I use them both and I find search very handy when I want to make sure that my answer is correct answer I would like (I haven't seen option like this) to have possibility to filter search results to "Solved only questions" which would make things easier to look for the answer.

I use email notifications for all posts that are mentioning my nickname and I have found that some email are going straight to my inbox, some of them a getting filtered to Updated or Promotions folders on my Gmail app but they all have the same message and title. I think this is issue with my email client rather than ID Mobile.

I have said what I like and now I just want to mention what I don't or what I feel that is missing here. First of all I would love to have dedicated app for accessing community like OnePlus has. I would like to it optimized for mobile as this is my main way of accessing it. I have noticed that access to forum was added in ID Mobile app but it is not very comfortable implementation therefore I am still using Chrome for it :)

Other thing that I would like to have is ability to quote a part of the posts instead of whole and then working out what should I remove from that quote.

Yeah the 10GB Data Cushion is amazing thing to reward a hero that deserve it but looking at things I do not see any candidates for that at the end of February, I don't anyone posting as frequently as our chosen few.

I don't really bother with cash incentives personally, Giffgaff offer these but I did not stick there for a log time at all. It was just thinking about bringing new people to the community to have more heroes and interactions so I thought that offering points would be a great thing to make a sale and get another contract or upgrade and have people work for the discount as they would work for their salary :)

Regards

I definitely like the idea of a shareable data allowance. My husband and I have high data plans, but fairly low usage. It would be amazing if we could get the children PAYG SIM cards, and then share a portion of our data with them per month.
Currently they both have SIM-Only plans which they are supposed to keep with them in case of emergency, but they generally don't take them! The contracts are low-data, which means the children 'forget' to take them when they go out with their grandparents or friends' parents, as they can't use a lot of data for mobile gaming.
I think this would be a fantastic way to persuade them to take their phones out with them!

Hey @Hikari,

Really useful to see that you have found the platform intuitive so far. It’s interesting to hear that you tend to use the ‘Menu’ in the top right corner. Do you use this to filter between recently active, active since last visit, and unanswered questions? Or between the actual sub forum categories? I'm constantly looking at user journeys in this sense to evaluate how useful our current sub forums are.

Search has gone through several updates over the last couple of months to improve relevance of the results so that is good to hear. A solved only filter wasn’t on our radar for search, however ‘solved’ questions were moved much higher in the list of priorities within the search algorithm.

On the dedicated app front, I completely agree with your suggestions. The current integration with our app works if you are just looking to post a question, but for heroes like yourself, it’s much more difficult to browse and help others, whilst being limited by the header and footer of the existing app. We are definitely looking at how we can integrate it more as there would be further benefits for things like notifications and having a single sign on. I’d personally like to see it as a dedicated section of the app, integrated more with FAQ’s and our Help & Advice pages, rather than its very own standalone version!

Really useful insights again! I will definitely be sharing these with some of the wider team to see what else can be done.

Thanks,
Ed

Hey @EdH

I am using "Recently active topics" and "Active since last visit" options. I don't tend do use "Unanswered questions" filter as I have noticed that either someone else already posted spot on answer just wasn't market as "best answer" yet or question is a bit outdated and very like person who asked it doesn't even come back here. I would see it more handy as filter for topics with no replies at all so then I could go through all of the ones with "0" and see if there is anything that I can help with.

It is just something I feel that would make my life easier and it's very subjective requirement. I can live without filter for "solved" questions it just make my usage more convenient. Kind of like gesture controls, I can live with them but if I have them it's just soooo handy :D

This is spot on @EdH dedicated section with better integration is something I will be waiting for. In app notifications would be another great improvement that I would definitely take advantage of. :-)
