roaming charged

Hi. I recently went abroad to Turkey and before I left the UK I turned roaming off and my mobile data and signal off completely relying on Wi-Fi in the hotel yet I have still been charged additional charges for texts and calls.

I turned off the option here

That doesn’t turn “signal off completely”, just mobile data. So, your phone connected to a foreign network and you proceeded to make/receive calls and texts and were correctly charged as a result.

Oh. I thought this would. Thanks for the reply. How would I avoid charges in the future? It’s not a big bill as it’s only £20 but I would like to avoid this in the future.
