smartwatch esim

Hi guys , I've just taken out a  new 2 year  phone contract with id mobile.

I just  purchased a Samsung smartwatch thinking as per samsung instructions really easy to set up and add to my contract via esim.

A advisor on live chat said yep all good and sent me a esim!

Unfortunately now found out he was wrong and I.d mobile doesn't offer that service yet!! Now leaving me with a new watch I can't fully use. :(

When will you offer this service?

Samsung make it sound so easy it just links to your phone add esim  on watch and it will  use your current plan calls and data allowance when watch  away from your phone.

Why is this so hard for the network provider to sort out?

Hey there @Peter R Gladdy, welcome to Community!

You’d be correct in saying that we don’t offer our usage of eSIM’s in any other devices than the handsets compatible with eSIM cards.

We have only in the past few months introduced eSIM’s, and we’ll always look for ways to improve, which may mean the implementation of the usage of eSIM’s in other devices in the future, but this isn’t something we currently offer I’m afraid.

We sincerely apologise if you were advised differently, and of course, you’re welcome to return your device to us during the returns window.

Sorry again about that.

Kind regards,

Tyler

Best check network compatibility if considering ESIM!

That doesn't quite answer my question.

new samsung phone new samsung lte watch.

We can buy these products but I.d mobile does not yet support the service to run the lte esim function on the watch.

Big in other countries!

Why are we so far behind?

Perhaps because it costs money to support a wider range of SIM capable devices, @Peter R Gladdy

At iD Mobile, they only support use of a SIM / eSIM in mobile phones, but you can do what you want on other UK networks, so maybe just switch providers.

The problem I'd mobile told me they offered this service before I purchased new contract and watch.

Now I have it they can't offer it so I've got to cancel the contract as within 14 days and send phone back.

If they had told me correctly in the 1st place I would not have signed up  to a new contract with I.d mobile :(

If would help if there advisors actually gave you correct information 1st!

Hi @Luke Salmon,

As @WelshPaul advised this still hasn’t been introduced.

We will be sure to update our website and platforms if this is introduced in the future.

Can't imagine this is ever going to be a feature, it appears this has been requested for months.

It seems to me iD Mobile is happy just being stuck in the past and limited to a minimal selection of handsets and features tied to them... It'll become less and less relevant in the face of better alternatives just as the rest of Currys PLC has become.

Have to say that Ive never been as disappointed with a mobile service provider as I am with iD...  19 months and counting

Hi @Swampeh

We have no plans at this time and nothing to announce, I’m sorry you feel that way about this, however it’s never something we’ve promised.
