Is it possible to buy an add on so that I can use my ID Mobile SIM in UAE? If not am I best off just buying a local SIM when there?

There aren’t any iD add-on packages for using your iD SIM card in the UAE,
If your handset has an eSIM, I’d suggest get a data only eSIM to use in the UAE.
Otherwise get a local SIM when you arrive in the UAE.
Most international arrival halls seem to have companies selling local SIM cards nowadays.

Yeah, I used a data-only eSIM when I visited Australia and the USA in 2023, which worked well.
By disabling mobile data on the (physical) primary SIM card, I used my eSIM for roaming mobile data instead.
