2 bars of 4g indicated but absolutely no data connection north cornwall

Hi IPhone 15 user.

in Padstow Cornwall my phone has consistently show 2 bars of 4g however I don’t have any data connection. I can’t pay for parking via apps etc.

The Three network map shows I should have data in the area PL28.

Oddly at odd occasions my phone indicates 3 bars of 3G and data works fine.

The lack of data connection is a bit of a deal

breaker. What is going on?

There maybe a network incident in the Padstow area, @Chiliblue

It has been the same each time I have been here in the last year. Maybe 6 visits 4-14 days each.

Sorry to tack this on to your post, but I seem to be unable to create a new post, and my problem is similar to your but in the ST6 postcode Stoke on Trent.

I am getting very low (typically around 1-3 Mb/s, often lower) download speeds on 4G. Ironically, I get upload speeds of around 10 Mb/s at the same time. Below is a screen grab of a speed test from 5 minutes ago, my RSSI was 24, typically it is in the range 22-24.

I have tried resetting the phone, and resetting the data connection by going to airplane mode and back, but that rarely makes any difference.

The Three service status indicates no reported issues. My cell ID is BA801.

My conclusion is that there is a capacity issue on my local tower, or could there be a fault?

Hey there @Chiliblue & @Korkin, sorry to hear about your coverage issues.

If work is on-going in the area, then this would likely affect your signal in the mean-time.

Have you both tried restarting your phone and resetting network settings?

Is the issue with calls, texts and data?

Thanks,

Tyler

For me it is data only affected. I find it bizarre that my upload speed is usually 5-10x my download speed. That persuades me that the issue is oversubscription, with most subscribers trying to download, and relatively little upload traffic.

Just checked, it has improved today, but is still slow, and my download speed is still lower than my upload speed. Screenshot below.

Current signal stats:

RSSI 22

RSRP -101

RSRQ -13

SINR 5

Perhaps @Korkin, the Three UK network cell towers or their backhaul network might be ‘overloaded’ in your area, as you suspect.

If 3G network services have been shut-down in your area, the Three UK network might still be being optimised for 4G / 5G traffic patterns.
