Question

ID network speed worse than O2

My wife and I have recently changed from O2 to ID and have noticed the download speed on both 4G & 5G is noticeably slower.  We recently visited London where trying to access information such as maps etc. was frustratingly slow.

Is this just a characteristic of the 3 network or does IDMobile get a throttled service from 3?   Re-logging on to the network doesn't make any difference.

About to leave my monthly contract and return to O2. Network speed does not seem to be a factor that is published when it comes to selecting a service provider, something Ofcom should be ensuring is visible to customers.

Hey there @WGMAK, we’re very sorry to hear that.

Please can you confirm the full postcode(s) you’re having issues in, and what device you have?

Is the issue only with data going slowly, or other data related issues, or any calls/text issues?

Thanks,

Tyler

I’m using an iphone11, (4G),   my wife is using iPhone SE.(5G).

My wife’s perception is that she is finding less 5G signal coverage than with O2.

I noticed inferior coverage firstly in Walthamstow, London where I was unable to get a signal inside.

I live in BD209BJ, again download speed is much inferior to O2, I generally have 1 bar of 4G signal inside.

In York last Friday, again very slow download, same in Brigg, Lincolnshire and Lincoln weekend before.

With O2 I would occasionally experience frustratingly slow loading times on cellular data, with IDM it’s the majority of the time.

I did have a problem yesterday where the phone would appear to not connect a call. I tested it by trying to call my home landline number - wouldn't connect, however it did receive a call from the landline.

As I understood 3 to supposedly have the fastest network in the UK it doesn't seem to add up.

Currently in Grassington, southern  Yorkshire Dales, 1bar of 4G, no 5G signal.

Hi @WGMAK  thanks for getting back to us.

I haven’t been able to find any issues with coverage in your area, in fact your 4G coverage should be great! 5G is unavailable currently through.

Can you please follow the steps in this article and let us know how you get on? I can't use my mobile data (4G/5G) on my SIM. What should I do? | iD Mobile Community

Thanks.
