Just Switched to ID Mobile

I just switched to iD, i think i am going to regret it.  Data speeds are poor and i can just about make a call.  I live in a town, so it should not be this bad surely?  I shouldn’t have to rely on broadband to get a service.

Hi there @LlabChris

i think i am going to regret it

I totally understand what you’re saying. Though you could always stick your postcode in to these and see if it’s a wider issue:

iD's MVNO coverage checker

(it defaults to the 4G result, then select 3G or 5G if your phones is 5G capable)

And here:

iD's MVNO network service status

It might even be worth, assuming 3G has gone from your area, reading this:

And if they don’t show any issues in your area, then possibly jumping ship if you’re within the cooling off period.

Hi @Daz_S thanks for replying.

i already checked coverage in my area.  It has an excellent service with regards to 4G.  5G is not in the area yet, although other providers do have it and in honesty, i’m not too bothered with 5G at the moment.  I also checked the service and no issues.

My phone is also up to date and does not use 3G.  I will wait until tomorrow to see if it improves but i will probably find another provider if i cannot get a service that claims to have a good service in my area.

A pity as the contract was a good deal.

No problem @LlabChris

You’re kinda like me then, 3G has now gone and my 4G is very much hit and miss too. 5G ain’t gonna happen any time soon either.

When I joined this merry band of pirates my signal was the best it’s ever been, even to the point my boss (the missus) jumping ship and joined too. Then after a month or so (after she joined) our signal went to shot!

I made a wise choice, from the looks of it, as we’re both on rolling monthly SIM only deals, so I/we can offski when we like.

Anyway, hopefully tomorrow is a better day for you 😉

Just don’t hold yer breath!!🙄

I was advised on this forum to check https://checker.ofcom.org.uk/en-gb/mobile-coverage for a truer reflection of coverage in your area.

The ID checker says I should have excellent coverage but the Ofcom check says I'll have a limited service.

Limited was putting it mildly, in the end I had to cancel my contract as it was unusable.

I’m going to switch to EE anyway as i am on a monthly contract.  I have been in touch with customer service (iD) and they advised me to reset my WiFi connections.  What that has got to do with having poor mobile data is a head scratcher for me.

i bought a £10 Vodafone pay as you go back up until i switch.  Got to say i’m impressed with their speeds, about 50mbps and proves that my phone is not at fault.

@KGN I used to use the OFCOM one too, though it can take a while to catch up with more recent results - just checked out of pure interest and it’s dated June 24 - but yes shows limited here too.

@LlabChris Tried EE here, nope no good. Tried O2 (actually Tesco as I’m a cheapskate), was okay then slowly got worse until they merged with Virgin, then pure tripe. Obviously tried Three (as you may know iD piggyback) and at the beginning it was really good, now its really bad. Funny you should mention Vodafone as its probably where I’ll be going - just hope that when Vodafone and Three merge it doesn’t end up like Virgin+O2.

I’ll be back to 2 polystyrene cups and string at this rate!!

Anyway good luck with Voda!👍

Just signed up too. New iPhone 16 pro max and max speed so far 3.5mbps

the price was good but it looks like I will be cancelling the contract and send back the phone.

I’ll give another go with their customer service to see if there is anything that they can do. 12/11/2024 everyone is on over 100mbps and here is below 5.
Does anyone know how long do I have to return the phone and cancel the contract?
