Question

new contract no signal

  • Active Contributor

I’ve just joined ID Mobile, picked new phone up yesterday, phone number was transferred today, sims been activated and I’ve no signal at all, WiFi calling is on, I’m using 4g as no 5g here . I did a service checker and can see there’s some issue. Hoping I’ve not made a mistake!

Hi @Su99

Welcome and thank you for posting.

We are sorry to hear of the problems you have faced with the service.

On the day of the port, it can take up to 10pm for this to be fully processed.

Can we please ask, are you still experiencing issues with the service today?

Thanks,

Nat

Hi Nat. Thanks for your reply. Yes it’s still showing no bars when I’m home but in town signal shows 5 bars, I did pop into carphone warehouse today, young lad said the there’s been an issue with the network, he seemed to think it will be back by Friday and advised me if it wasn’t to pop back next Monday,

If you would like us to double check from here, can you please provide your postcode.

Alternatively, if you are happy to visit the store we understand 😀

Thanks,

Hi Nat

would be good if you can check too.

My postcode is Ng32 1lf

i had a phone call today and the line wasn’t clear at all, kept breaking up. Oddly a WhatsApp video call today was breaking up too, which neither have ever been an issue before.

many thanks

sue

For that postcode it currently states this on their network status:

We're working on fixing an issue in this area at the moment. We're sorry for any disruption this may be causing.

We hope to have things fixed as soon as possible and will add any updates here.

Also again using that postcode and looking at their network coverage map it states you still have 3G, so your phone could well be moving between 3G and 4G - that would explain the call and data issues as my area is the same as yours (and up until I forced my phone to only use 4G mine was bouncing between both) with the same call and data issues you describe.

@Natalie W thanks for your reply

yea I did read there is an issue in this area, also as when I go into town I get 5 bars (ng31) I only have till Saturday to decide if I want to return the phone and cancel the contract so if this isn’t fixed by then I’m left with potentially a contract for 2 years that doesn’t have a signal here, Vodafone work here either so I feel is the area more than an issue with I’d and three

Depends on the phone in use, so this might not apply in your case if your phone is 4G only - as long as the phone is not set to auto connect (5G/4G auto) then it should be fine. Another poster had an issue with his 5G/4G device and it transpired that in auto it actually was dropping to 3G. After manually setting it to 4G only did his issue ‘go away’.

Regarding the signal issue - compare the results on the Ofcom mobile network checker as this would give you an idea of which networks are good to use at your postcode. This may allow you to make your mind up sooner

Was the phone purchased from iD or somewhere like Currys etc?

If you don’t mind saying what phone is it?

And please do. The Ofcom results used to be somewhat out of date but lately its been pretty accurate. For my area its spot on.

@Daz_S  hi.

The phone is iPhone 14 from carphone warehouse/currys  on ID yea I’ve checked the ofcome site and only network that works here is 02, which makes sense as phone before was giff gaff who are 02, I will  be returning the phone sadly as cannot have no signal at all and not willing to wait to see if the issue is sorted out.  I do know sky works too so maybe that as 02 are expensive. Thanks for replying

Thanks for that @Su99, so a possible road I was going to take (regarding the phone brand) doesn’t apply in your case.

At least you’ve found out what Ofcom says for your area and I really don’t blame you for deciding to either move back to O2 or giving Sky a go - no harm in trying.

Should you ever come back and need help/advice just shout out!🙂

And with that I really do hope its fine elsewhere 🙂

(For the WiFi you would need to look at what other routers WiFi channels are set to - there are many wifi analysing apps available - and then pick a less congested channel. But factor in a little known issue called wifi overlap, so I’d suggest picking channels 1 or 6 or 11 as these are the only 3 that don’t overlap with each other)
