New to ID, Cannot make or receive calls

  • Active Contributor

I’ve switched two numbers over to ID and got a new ID SIM for my daughter (who previously did not have a phone).
Data & texts are fine on all three.. however, calling is an issue.
I cannot make outgoing calls, nor receive them across all three devices.
I’ve got a work phone which has successfully made calls to one of the three new numbers, but it is not consistent, and usually fails.
Calls from all three numbers cannot be made on my work phone, or in-between each other.

The support chat-bot just sends me round in circles regarding the 3G switch off and sending me to a support page which has a number of steps to make this work,… but it doesn’t.

Does anyone know how to get this working or should I be very thankful I’m in a one month contract?

No need to do a full factory reset, just a network reset. You won’t lose your data, and you won’t need to set up the phone.

  1. Open ‘Settings’.

  2. Tap ‘General’.

  3. Tap ‘Transfer or Reset iPhone’.

  4. Tap ‘Reset’.

  5. Select ‘Reset Network Settings’.

  6. Enter your passcode, then tap ‘Reset Network Settings’.

Also, do you have WiFi calling enabled or disabled? If enabled, try disabling it and vice versa.

Settings > Apps > Phone > Wi-Fi calling

Finally, make sure you have the correct number showing under My Number. It needs to be in an international format starting with +44 (e.g. +447123456789)

Settings > Apps > Phone > My Number

All three devices are definitely supported. What signal strength are you getting at your location and have you tried performing a network reset?

The iPhone 13 was fully factory reset. I’ve not done it on the other two as that doesn’t appear to be the culprit

Hi @EddG

As 3G has been turned off then you need to ensure that VoLTE (Voice over LTE) has been enabled on the handsets:-

To enable VoLTE on an iPhone, navigate to Settings > Mobile Data > Mobile Data Options > Voice & Data. Then, toggle the switch next to VoLTE to the "on" position. You may need to ensure that your network is set to 4G or LTE, as some carriers require this setting to activate VoLTE.
This is the same for all 3 iPhones you have detailed.

Data and texts will work without this setting being turned on but phone calls need to be connected via VoLTE.

Good luck x

VoLTE Is enabled on all 3 devices.

I hesitated doing a network settings reset as I understand it loses all my saved Wi-Fi passwords. Which would be quite a pain to reestablish

There is no option when using the iD Mobile network as it’s hidden. It’s enabled by default.

I understand, but it’s either that or you switch networks. If you switch, you risk running into the same issue.

FYI - Others have posted in the past with the same issue, and a network settings reset worked for them.

Have done a network reset now on all devices.
when my wife rings me, it calls on my handset, but when I answer it I hear nothing and on her phone it still looks like it’s calling but not connected.

when I ring her, it has a dialling noise on my end but she sees nothing on her phone. The call then goes to voicemail

Could be a case of your phone is now working but it’s hers that still has an issue. Try making or receiving a call on your device from another line.

Got a work phone - if I call it from my phone, it rings - when I answer it there is no sound. My phone is acting like it’s not been connected.

if I call my phone from my work phone, I get a calling dial tone but my phone shows nothing - doesn’t register that it’s the recipient of a call at all

Have you checked that the number of the phone is set correctly as per my post above? Are you using WiFi calling or is it disabled?

Yep, the numbers are correct, I’ve removed that and re-entered too to make sure.
and I’ve toggled Wi-Fi calling.
still same issues

WiFi calling doesn’t use the local cell network, so if you’re having issues making and receiving calls with WiFi calling on and off then it’s either your device at fault or an account-related issue.

Have you recently ported over your number(s)?

The only other option is to replace the SIM/eSIM, but the odds of having three faulty SIMs at once are very unlikely.

I’ve now been able to make successful multiple calls between the devices and my work phone  with WiFi calling turned off on all three.

That’s progress at least.

Is there a general issue with WiFi calling and ID does anyone know?

Wi-Fi calling works fine for all of us, always has. What ISP are you with? What router do you have?

It’s an Apple AirPort Extreme, never had issues with Wi-Fi calling previously.
ISP is Exa Networks. I used to work for them so I know it’s nothing to do with them.

You’ll need to search online for a possible fix. There are no settings within your iPhone settings to alter, aside from enabling or disabling WiFi calling.

Just been through very similar on my galaxy android after porting.

Try disabling/deleting the ID APN in the network settings and waiting a while.

Then hopefully a '3' APN option will appear along with an ID one.

Choose the 3 one and it all started working for me...took a week of troubleshooting though until I stumbled across this "fix"

Hope it works for iPhone 👍
