No calls or internet when on 4G

Moved to ID mobile from o2 six months ago - rest of the family are on ID and have had no issues at all. I have a Pixel 8, all up to date and runs perfectly except if I’m in an area where there’s little 5G my 4G is absolutely dire. 
I can’t make/receive calls, have no internet connection and the phone is essentially a useless brick unless I can find wifi or back to 5G! 

This isn’t in rural areas either - central London and other big cities as well as smaller towns. 4G just does not work. Any ideas?! 

Maybe there’s an Android setting forcing your handset to always use 5G, @Becca Chaplin.

Perhaps setting the device to auto select the network would solve the issue. 

Thanks @andewhite it’s already set on automatically select network. 
We’re quite tech savvy and have gone through all the settings but can’t see anything that is an obvious answer and my settings match the Pixel 7s in the house that other family members have

 

Okay @Becca Chaplin, the Pixel 7 devices with iD SIM cards are fine, but your Pixel 8 is not? 

That would seem to suggest an issue with the device - does your iD SIM work properly in a Pixel 7?
