Therefore, as you have a phone that isn’t on this list compatible with 4G calling, then calling will no longer work I’m afraid. You will need to upgrade/purchase a newer phone from the list for our network to work for calls.
Just checking, regarding the suggestions you tried, did you check 4G calling and/or LTE for voice calls and with either also having VoLTE enabled?
For areas with 3G switched off, we now need VoLTE to continue using the voice side of things. If you definitely have this enabled there are some others reporting they still can’t make calls and it looks like their software version on their phone is to blame.
I have checked Settings--Network & Internet---Mobile Network. Preferred Network type, 4G (recommended). No mention of LTE or VoLTE.
I have checked Settings---System---Advanced---System Update. It states last check for update today at 8:15. Did a manual check and no further updates. I know I get updates, as my phone display, menu has small changes, like contact list etc.
The confusing thing is my phone works well elsewhere in the country. It is at home that my voice calls do not work. Is 3G switched off and 4G not activated.

Hi @Neil C (and to add it the above from andewhite)
That’s probably where the problem lies. You need VoLTE to continue to use voice calling now that Three are switching off 3G (and iD piggyback on Three). It could even be the case that your previous phone service provider has installed a service update (many moons ago) and when 3G was still thriving your phone worked perfectly. Since the big 3G switch off, from experience, it appears to be remnants of this old software that have given us a final punch in the guts, as it very looks like that this now inhibits VoLTE in some cases.
The updates hoop we are advised to jump through is just a secondary check imo. The main issue is the availability of 4G/LTE and thus VoLTE.
Now I can answer that with some certainty. Those areas you travel though probably still have 3G enabled, hence why it works in those locations.
But does it support VoLTE. Even if it did it doesn’t mean it can work on iD. Where did you obtain the phone from? If it was Three then it should work.Any other of the (current) big 4 and this could be why you don’t have/see VoLTE as an option.
Also andewhite makes a very valid point. Some users phones were compatible with the iD network and some appear to no longer support the iD network. Hmm 🤐
The only other advice I can offer is to see if you can enable WiFi calling, its probably known as VoWiFi on your phone - this should retain the ability to use your phone for voice calls when its connected to a WiFi network, handy at home but more of a problem when not.
Thankyou to everyone who responded to me and gave help/suggestions.
So it appears my phone is not compatible with the iD network and I have been lucky elsewhere as 3G may be still in operation.
I first configured my device on 22 Oct 2018. So its just over 6 years old. Does not sound long, but I use it every day and carry it with me everywhere. So it has been well used. It was purchased from CarPhoneWarehouse (from what I remember, and I think they sold me the iD package with the phone).
I’ve got the list of compatible phones for the iD network, and will be looking at changing the phone.
Yes indeed, it really does look like you were just lucky in those other areas. Better technology by turning off 3G, well was it? Yes I know those antennae will be refashioned in to 4G ones, but its chipping away at our good old faithful phones.
Mine was, by the manufacturer, deemed out of date when it made it to 4 years of age.
Yours being from CFW, a Currys owned business, and iD (also Currys) and the fact you bought it for use on iD means to me something else isn’t right here - AFAIK it should continue to work as the software providers software would have been an iD version. Those that don’t work since the 3G switch off tend to be from the likes of Vodafone etc. I find the fact it now isn’t an approved handset a little concerning unless its all simply due to the age of the device and it not having the functionality of VoLTE
Anyway, a new phone should sort this, just be mindful if you do decide to remain with iD getting one from them might be the best way - the only caveat might be whether that one works on other providers in the future if you ever did decide to move away from iDin a few years down the line.
Stick both your Nokia and Samsung on charge, place them near to the WiFi router (just to speed things up), install Smart switch from the play store, follow the prompts, chill out with a brew and just let them do their stuff. Clearly some apps on the Nokia might need retiring on the Samsung, just delete those on the new phone that no longer apply.
As @Daz_S suggests above, Smart Switch is rather easy to get going, it’ll walk you through the whole process letting you know exactly what would be needed from you, if anything.
I’ve been on the internet, and it appears straightforward and there are internet sites and youtube video showing how it is done. A job for the weekend.
I’ve ordered a Samsung Galaxy A05S 4G. It’s a bit cheaper but the spec has been improved and is very similar to the A15 for camera, phone, text and wifi use. I know memory is less, but I regularly back up my photos and data, so memory capacity not a big issue. I’m just a basic user of the phone.
