Question

signal abysmal since mast replaced

iPhone SE 2020

Signal was storming in any room in house for several years never had an issue.

Then in around late 2024 my local cell mast which is a couple of blocks and visible from at least two upstairs windows, was switched off (according to third party web site) anyway this coincided with the signal dropping to one bar and phone being unusable on ground floor and patchy on first floor.

A few months ago a new larger mast replaced the original and I assumed the previously great signal would resume.

It never has and is just as bad.

The guys installing the mast told me it would carry all networks including 3 but things haven’t improved.

The mast is at Slaidburn Crescent and my postcode is PR9 9UP

Im considering moving providers because of the above because I really rely on the phone a lot and it’s such a nuisance having to go upstairs and stand next to a window just to be heard.

I tried contacting 3 who just sent me a link to their coverage map as well as contacting ID who haven’t actually helped or given me any answers or reassurance that thing will improve in the near future.

In other locations I get all 4 bars and great reception so I doubt it’s the phone.

Hi @cpcnw

Thank you for getting in touch.

We are sorry to hear you are experiencing issues with the signal within your home.

Can you please confirm if you are having the problems when connecting to 4G or 5G?

Natalie

Although iD has switched OFF 3G network services in most areas of the UK, seems like iD still offer a 3G network service in your postcode location, @cpcnw.

Have you tried ‘forcing’ your iPhone SE to use 3G mode at home?

Can you use the iD WiFi Calling service at home?

Yes, but sometimes it goes all ‘Robot Voice’ or breaks up.

When you are connected @cpcnw  does it show as 4G or 5G on the top of the screen?

Does rebooting the handset help at all?

OK, have you found a reboot helps @cpcnw  as this will refresh your connection to the network.

Nope. Neither does running the latest phone update or refreshing the data components etc etc

I reckon it’s a 3 network issue but I am not a 3 customer I am on ID - but ID can’t seem to give me any answers as to why it was great and now it’s terrible.

Just updating the thread.

At this point nothing has changed.

I am still being asked to send example time / dates of affected calls even though it is a permanent issue affecting my locality and regardless of fact I have already provided several examples.

I am beginning to think it’s just a put off exercise?

Seems like a possible network incident in your area, @cpcnw

Interesting. Hopefully whatever is wrong and subsequently fixed will resolve my abysmal signal?

Clearly the new mast hasn’t been turned on @cpcnw. It can take weeks, months, and in some cases, years before an erected mast gets turned on.

They wouldn’t know when the mast was scheduled to go live. They just have a job sheet with a to-do list and a set of dates on which to complete them by.

Maybe.

Shame O2 (Giff Gaff) have their kit sorted in quick smart fashion and 3 haven’t.

If O2 provides a better signal at your location, switch to them or an MVNO that uses them.
