terrible network coverga

I’ve been a customer in the past of Three for many years and there is no way ID Mobile is getting the same level service, it just can’t be with the absolute rubbish coverage I’m getting!!!

Where ever I go I struggle to get simple data even though it shows 3 bars 4G and 5G. Browsing the net or watching YouTube is an absolute nightmare and I’m in the middle of Manchester! I’m using a iPhone 15, in some areas I can dial *#100# to force 3G and just like magic my YouTube will play without a single bit of buffering! 4G is a case of a few minutes or seconds of play then it will freeze, 5G even with 3 bars won’t even load the YouTube thumbnails of the videos.

It’s absolutely shocking!!! How are they getting away with it?

@DerekC

I’ve been a customer in the past of Three for many years and there is no way ID Mobile is getting the same level service, it just can’t be with the absolute rubbish coverage I’m getting!!!

I had the exact same thing happen between O2 and Tesco. I then came to iD. First month it was brilliant so my wife jumped to iD too. About a month after that its been going toes up in a big way. So you’re not alone.

Another forum user also said similar but in that case I did suggest they used an iD SIM and a Three SIM in the same phone and then repeat their testing -  (they had tested their phone on id with a friend of theirs whom that friend used their phone and a Three SIM)

I have been doing research and iD state that have no traffic management - I genuinely thought they did as this would have explained my issues, well some of them. Anyway you can download their PDF about this here - https://www.idmobile.co.uk/online-traffic-statement

5G isn’t something I’m likely to get any time soon either, so can’t comment on that…. yet.

It’s absolutely shocking!!! How are they getting away with it?

I’ve been collecting evidence, using (so far) 3 different network checkers, taking screenshots of what my phone is showing, some even during calls. iD will state that they get the same level as service as those direct with Three. I totally understand why they’d say this but they’re not seeing what we’re having to deal with.

Any future readers might say jump to another provider - tried EE and O2 and they’re no better. I was going to try Vodafone but when they merge with Three I’ll be back to where I started.

Anyway I hope your issues get sorted - a lot of it is related to Three knocking off 3G and then reconfiguring those antennae to utilise 4G.

Wow thanks for the reply, it’s just crazy to think that 3G is being turned off when in my testing it’s so much more stable! Maybe not faster but it seems to work really well when I can force it to work using the *#100#. The main problem for me is how can the phone show 2 bars of 5G or 3 bars of 4G but not work?? Here is a screenshot from this evening, this is in Trafford Park near the Trafford Centre but even still if there’s no data available it should not show 2 bars of 5G!

@Daz_S just to add I switched my son’s contract over first and it seemed to work well however he is mostly connected to the home wifi so it would. We then switched my partners contract over, then I followed. So we have three in total and my daughter is still on “Three”. I also noticed it was absolutely brilliant at first, no being a few months in it’s dropped off a cliff, I do really feel there’s more in play here than we might actually think!

Honestly @DerekC its no problem at all. Without posting this up who would ever know.

Yes you’re right regarding 3G. My connection was better when 3G was still going. Since then, though in honesty it does look like Three keep turning back on and then off again here, mines a real daily problem. Though that’s where ours differs - I rarely get a signal above 1 bar. I can sometimes get up to 3 bars outside but can just about load a web page, no joy streaming though!

One might come to the conclusion that Three has been oversubscribed hence all the posts🤐

Sounds very familiar. Give us the full beans and then slowly knock it back, well some of us might think this too… But I’m sure iD will deny this. You can’t blame the guys and gals (staff) on here but one also might think those up the food chain know exactly what’s going off. But its like the old saying, you get what you pay for.

I’ve done a little bit more than that. If you have an hour or so pop your head over here:

(ignore the spelling for cruise. I was either excited or my mind was on connection issues)

@Daz_S

I've just had a read, I would say I’m having much the same experience but I’ve kinda been taking it on the chin and not moaned about it until now, but very British of me ☺️.

I have massive issues with connection in my house, I have to be leaning over the sofa into the window frame to get a signal in the front room. ID mobile even had the cheek to send me this email:

Which is very strange because I was led to believe it was already available in my area! My reply at this stage I would be much happier with 3G….. or an early termination so I can change to a different network.

Same here. Kept quiet for a few months. Again what are we Brits like!

Again same here. My house its pretty bad. Outside of my immediate area ain’t much better. My call quality is the worst its been in many months - due to ‘network upgrades’ mine flicks between LTE (using 4G) and UMTS (3G) with the latter being an impossibility if Three have truly switched off 3G - they state they have so I’m assuming they’re having to put it back on as 4G can’t cope.

Oh yes, many other have reported the same email. It would appear that iD’s systems auto send it when Three notify them 5G is available - though as many others have found it is in that area, just nowhere near them!

Who knows,maybe before the end of the year 4G will be working and for those whom have 5G this too will be working too. Or is this just a dream…..😏

Hi @DerekC

Sorry to hear you feel this way, as mentioned already, at iD Mobile we have no suspicion that Three UK would be delivering us a ‘lesser service’ than a Three UK direct user would get, we share the same signal network, all users treated the same.

If you are unhappy with your signal after having just started with us, all iD Mobile plans have a cooling off period in which you’ll be able to return your plan for the very reason that you’re unhappy with signal. It may be worth considering if that’s the case for you.

Tom
