I have followed all the steps advised following switch off of 3G to check status of phone etc & its taken hours, however am still unable to make or receive any calls. I have internet & messaging. Has anyone found a further fix? I am looking for a chatbot, but no luck so far

Honestly @Marie Ann Evans I totally understand all the hassle you’ve been having and then some random guy on the internet is asking questions too.

And I hate this bit, but sadly I have an answer for you, and your stress isn’t quite yet over.

That phone started life as an EE supplied phone, so technically the seller has lied to you. It will not work with iD where areas have lost 3G.

Before 3G started being turned off any unlocked phone would have worked on any network. Since 3G started being turned off the phone now needs to be fully unlocked.

So I would suggest you notify the seller and return the phone - (feel free to copy the following) -  the phone sent isn’t fully unlocked due to the original suppliers software version, in this case EE, inhibiting the ability to utilise 4G/LTE with VoLTE functionality and 4G/LTE AND VoLTE are required.

Again sorry to have to tell you all of that, but hope you now have an answer.

Hi there @Marie Ann Evans

Was the phone originally supplied by iD Mobile?

If it wasn’t and you originally obtained it from Vodafone (or other operators using Vodafone), EE (or others) or O2 ( or others) then it could be your previous providers software inhibiting the VoLTE functionality.

Even if it was supplied by iD back in 2019, as I’ve recently discovered due to its age (or another unknown at least) it may also not work after the 3G was switched off.

What you could do is go to settings → About phone → Software information → Service provider software version and reply with the last group of letters ie xxx,xxx/xxx,xxx

It isn't possible to click on anything in that particular section, unless I'm in the wrong one, I've checked a few times and restarted phone.

Okay @Marie Ann Evans

There has been an increase in others recently buying ‘unlocked’ phones from certain websites and it transpires some are not even UK models, or others were supplied by other UK networks. Either can mean they won’t work on iD Mobile.

Anyway, grab your phone and:

  • press the settings icon
  • scroll down to the bottom and click on About phone
  • from there look for Software information and click on that
  • then scroll down until to see Service provider software version

Then provide the last group of letters from the service provider software version. They normally show like this VOD/EVR/XEU,XEF or something like that. The first part doesn’t matter, its the last bit that does.

Forgive my lack of knowledge and stupidity here - I'm very tired having been trying to sort this for days now! I get what you mean, here it is .…

It was no problem at all @Marie Ann Evans

I can get up from behind my sofa now!🤣

And with your now knowledge I’m sure you’ll sort it out.

You could always see if a relative or friend with the same A20e phone, but they’re with EE to see if theirs is unlocked to iD and swap phones. For info my Samsung phone ends in XEU/XEU,XEF/DRE and mine is fine with LTE and VoLTE

And I’ve been called some things in my time, but never that lol.

edit. What I was getting to regarding another phone on EE. If they bought it used it could be truly unlocked and works on iD. We already know yours would work on EE so swap them.

HI @Marie Ann Evans

@Daz_S is correct in his info with regards to your handset being controlled by a networks software.

Depending on how confident you are you can try 2 things. The first is relatively simple and the 2nd sounds complicated but really isn’t (I successfully completed it and I’m a numpty when it comes to tech!).

Solution 1 - Do you know anyone who has a EE SIM? If so, try putting their SIM into your phone and once connected perform a manual Software update. Hopefully this would mean that the relevant software update for VoLTE settings would now be available and then you try your iD SIM again.

Solutions 2 - Flash unbranded (uncontrolled) software to your phone.
This is a reply I posted on ‘how to’ for someone else who had the same problem with not having the VoLTE option on a Samsung phone….

https://community.idmobile.co.uk/ask%2Da%2Dquestion%2D18/just%2Dsome%2Dbasic%2Dquestions%2Dabout%2Dnew%2Dsim%2Dcard%2Dvolte%2Dupgrade%2D68606

Yes, it does look complicated but it really isn’t. If you know someone that could help you then ask them to go through it with you because once you completely unlock the phone you won’t have to worry again i.e. you buy another 2nd hand phone and you come across the same problem…. you spend a lot of time looking for another phone that has uncontrolled software and this may be near on impossible as most handsets are sold by networks and controlled by them.

If you want to go down the route of wanting to flash unbranded software to your phone and you have any questions then please feel free to ask as I am more than happy to help! x
