I was thinking about how WiFi Calling actually works đ¤Â
With iD call plans certain numbers are âchargedâ (084, 087, 09, 118 etc) and I was thinking that if a âchargedâ call was connected through WiFi Calling only then surely it should be âfreeâ as you are not using iD mobile network for that call?!?!? Or are you not able to use one without the other?
For example. I am with iD Mobile with regards to unlimited calls and texts with 5GB data/mth plan BUT if I used WiFi Calling to phone a âpaid forâ number would it be free as my broadband supplier is BT and the call would be placed over their internet connection (at home).
I kind of understand that iD would be involved at some point, initially, but if I turned off my data and VoLTE, WIFi Calling would connect the call via my BT broadband and so how could iD be able to charge for the call when it doesnât use their network??
Just a thought and any help is appreciated!

No because a âWiFi callâ still has pass through a PTSN to complete the call.
The âWiFi callingâ part of the call goes as follows:Â Your Handset > Your Internet > Your Mobile Network. But, there is more that goes on to complete the call.

The iD WiFi Calling service uses your BT Internet connection to reach the iD Mobile network, instead of using a cell tower to reach the iD network.
If the call from your iD SIM wasnât routed through the iD network, it would not work.
