How do I obtain a mobile phone number (first personal mobile phone)?

I am just trying to set up my first mobile phione (after years of relying on a work phone).

How do I get a number for it?

The only options seem to be ttransfer an existing number or provide SPAN(?) if you want to change your existing phone number.

Pop your iD SIM in your phone and then call / text a friend / family member, @Leatherseat.

The person you call / text should be able to tell you your phone number.
