how to activate my sim card

I bought a monthly contract and it arrived with my sim yesterday. I've put the sim in my new phone but the sim isn't active and I don't know how to activate it could you please help me.

An iD SIM card for a new contract doesn’t need to be activated, ​@Aksheffield

Your new iD SIM should be ready to use, in any network unlocked phone. 

Does it work in a different phone?
