Hi @mikewd

I’ve always said that company apps are not the greatest thing so not a great loss that you can’t do it.
I have found that the best way to do this is to login to your account via the search engine on your phone and then add the page to your homescreen as a shortcut.
Voila, no more ‘app’ problems!

Are you asking question or making a statement? 😯

If it’s a question, you don’t need the iD Mobile App, just open a browser and use the online method instead - https://my.idmobile.co.uk/login

Both actually. These days companies always seem to assume that everyone is right up to date with the latest technology, some of us are yester year top engineers who were leaders in their field but have now retired and glad to be out of the technological rat race and I include myself in this bracket. Yes making a statement and Yes asking a question in a hope it will land in both sides together. Companies please note, you may be writing off some people. Not many pensioner's can afford to buy new gear all the time just to keep up with the Jones’s! Many thanks for your response to my statement/question. Kind regards.

The first line of my response was meant to have been read in a jovial manner and thanks anyway for clarifying your post was both..

The second part was merely offering a solution to your current problem. I do normally tend to write rather long and detailed replies but Gainsight (they ‘power’ these forums) appear to detect mine as spam and send them off for review – irrelevant for yourself but I’m pretty close to giving up in trying to create/answer a post as I often see the pop up gone for review message and only after human intervention are they released – clearly a job that you probably could’ve sorted being from the background in tech.

Regarding the rest of your reply I also agree with everything you’ve said. Being an Android OS phone user myself I used to extract the .APK files from those whom created their ‘monster’, so if and when I decided to allow them to update their app on my phone I could always roll back to an earlier version – they must have cottoned on as now most swiftly ‘kill off’ their older versions, iD included.

I was a yester year guy whom put the power into the buildings that guys like yourself needed to work, back then the companies I worked for used to be world leaders in tech too, but look at us now.

To end, I would still be using my HTC One if I could, and even my newest phone, by the definition of the manufacturer, was deemed obsolete when it was only 4 years old.

I wish you well.

edit to add.

This bit is aimed at anyone from iD regarding my replies going for review. This has been raised with Gainsight.

And for my fellow peers, casing point is the 3G switch off. The big 4 are or will be forcing some of us to upgrade our phones just to be able to make and receive a call, how fair is that? I am fortunate that my phone does work, but how many won’t?

I will stop at this point.

Hey there @mikewd, we’re very sorry to hear that.

As mentioned by @Decembersangel72, if you cannot download the app, you can of course login to our website via any device/browser at any time.

We appreciate your feedback.

Thanks,

Tyler

Hi @Daz_S
I agree with the statement, to a point, as a lot of people will still be holding onto/using 3G phones (as I’m sure, like myself, people will say ‘if it works why replace it?’) but they will eventually need to upgrade to a 4G enabled phone at some point.
Even if they have a 4G phone….
A lot of the confusion about the 4G network is because of the question ‘if ‘4G’ is seen as the network type on the device then it should work…. shouldn’t it?!?!?’ BUT many people don’t realise that the type of network they need to connect to is VoLTE/LTE and this is what should be seen in the phones network settings (I don’t know the correct ‘type’ of connection details for all phones make/models but the majority I looked into they need to see ‘LTE’ as the connection and not just ‘4G’).
Also, the phone needs to be ‘VoLTE provisioned’ to be able switch this ability on and this is performed through software updates which may be controlled by the original network provider of the phone.
This information is not widely known or shared by phone retailers and that is where the problem lies for (I would say) the majority of people having the same problem once 3G is turned off.
This is what I mean…..
I got an SG J4+ from my sister while I was with SMARTY. Once they turned off 3G my phone no longer worked and I thought it was because the make/model wasn’t on their ‘approved’ list and so I moved to iD Mobile where it was supported. Unfortunately, my phone still wouldn’t work Grrrrr!
It wasn’t until I did a LOT of research that I found out about having to connect to the ‘LTE’ network and the phone needed to be VoLTE provisioned to do so. I went through each setting, performed a Software update, everything and still no VoLTE/LTE ability .
It was only after a lot more hours of research that I found out that when phones are initially sold by a provider they have had their own software installed on it and it is then controlled by them including all updates.
The phone I was given was originally sold by Vodafone and I found that the software was locked to them and that meant that unless I was connected to their network I wouldn’t be able to get the updates needed to be able to provision VoLTE on the handset.
Luckily, during my research I managed to find a way to install unbranded software onto the phone (which I did) and I now get updates straight from Samsung and have a fully working and VoLTE enabled phone.
This is a very sneaky way by providers of controlling customers to stay on their networks and because very few people know that this is a thing they won’t understand that it is the reason why they have no way to enable VoLTE on their device.
The worst thing is, even if someone did purchase a ‘new’ phone, because their old one ‘didn’t work’, they more than likely still have the same problem because of the software restriction.
We all know that an ‘unlocked’ phone means you can use any network SIM in it but not many will realise that this doesn’t cover the software which may still be controlled and restricted by a certain provider. Unless VoLTE is already provisioned on a handset that is sold then there should be no problem….. BUT how many people would know to ask that before buying??

This is a very convoluted topic as the answer is either very simple e.g you need to move to a network that supports your phone or you just need to turn on VoLTE, or as complicated as installing new uncontrolled software that allows the updates to enable provisioning of VoLTE.

‘Google’ (other serch engines are available) is our friend and people just need to take a bit of time to research the problem as there is so much information out there as many people are experiencing the same problem now that the 3G network is being turned off.

I would love to agree with you that it is a case of ‘The big 4 are or will be forcing some of us to upgrade our phones just to be able to make and receive a call’ but it is so much more complicated than that or maybe not.

As I said, I’d still be using my mint condition HTC One is I could. I, due to my then provider, had no real option (in their opinion) but to upgrade to a newer version. Also as @mikewd sadly discovered developers prevent older device from running their latest version of app.

As posted on another thread. On most newish Samsung phones I’d say users need to check here:

Settings → (then scroll down to) About phoneStatus informationSIM card status → and under Mobile voice network type see if it shows LTE and for Mobile data network show as LTE

Also, the phone needs to be ‘VoLTE provisioned’ to be able switch this ability on and this is performed through software updates which may be controlled by the original network provider of the phone.

Completely unrelated but having looked at an old neighbours phone (MotoG10) having it provisioned potentially won’t mean it works if the owner has no control (and granted in this example he’s on Talkmobile)

And from what we can see his isn’t locked to any provider. The above was accessed via *#*#4636#*#* using the dialer.

And yes I’ve spotted you had to ‘tinker’ to get yours working.
